Replace fog light glass for $16

You can replace them with generic 3.5" glass from ebay fog light kits for various vehicles.
Ford Focus, Subaru legacy, Mitsubishi RVR, etc
Usually you can find a set for $31 shipped which comes out to $15.50 a glass! {thumbup}

Thing you'll need:
Philips screwdriver
eBay fog light kit of your choice
Permatex ultra black
Glass bowl or plastic container
gasoline
glass cleaner
Plastic razor blade or scraping tool that will not scratch glass

Step 1:
Take the glass or plastic container ( i used an old Frisbee) and fill with gasoline to about 1" deep
Submerge your ebay fog glass facing down, into the gasoline. make sure the gasoline is slighlty higher than the glass edge. let it soak for 24r.

If the glass does not come out of the housing after 24hr, pour some gasoline into the fog housing slightly past the glass edge and let it soak for another 24hr.

Step 2:
Separate the glass from the ebay housing. The glass should almost fall off or pop out with just your hands prying it off. If it does not come out, you most likely did not have the light submerged enough to reach and loosen the black sealant from the body.

Step 3:
Clean off the old sealant from the glass. I used a plastic razor blade from a local hardware store.

Step 4:
Take out the old broken glass from the OEM housing. I used a screw driver through the bulb opening on the back to push the glass outward and then used pliers to take out the broken chucks of glass.

Step 5:
Clean out the old gasket material from the OEM housing. I used a plastic pry tool to get most of it out. then test fit the oem housing to the new glass.

Step 6:
Clean both the glass and the housing with glass cleaner.

Step 7:
Apply Permatex Ultra Black to the OEM housing around the edge filling the gap where the glass will sit.

Step 8:
Place the glass on the housing and press down so that it sits flush with the housing.
Let it fully dry for 24hr.

Step 9:
Install fog light bulbs and mount back onto the car! :beer:

Mine got cracked just before I deployed to Afghanistan. I will take care of it when I get home in July. Thanks for the information on this. I was just going to go to the dealer and buy a new light.

FYI, if you throw the fog lights in the oven at 350 degrees for about 12 minutes, you can use a knife to separate the glass from the fog light without having to wait. I used black DAP gasket maker from the local hardware store, it worked great!

I initially tried them in the oven but had no luck, maybe i didn't leave them in long enoght. I'm glad you found the how to usefull.
