GSC Power-Division releases R2 camshafts
just my guess but those Kelfords will move the rpm range to the right quite a bit (maybe 500rpm) over the R2 and probably make similar peak power, probably even less believe it or not depending on the motor.i like the R2 or the S3 over these kelfords for a drag EVO.
i like the idea of more lift and less duration compared to the S3's for my EVO and i don't like the idea of less exhaust lift/duration compared to intake lift/duration for my EVO.i'm not saying it's the same for everyone, but just for what i am wanting to do with mine.
i have a 2.4L with a 6466 and i just had it built with S3's.they literally just finished it 2 weeks ago or i would order these R2's for my motor.that being said i don't think that in my motor the R2 will do much more than the S3.i would guess 20-30hp and maybe save me 100-200rpm spool, which i can live with.i'm sure there are some tests out there that will say the R2's gain 50hp over the S3,but i don't think the difference will be that great on my motor.
all of the above is just heresay and opinion,so don't quote me.i am strictly guessing for my application.i would also venture to say that if you don't have a well ported head then you wouldn't see any difference in peak power in any of the 3 cams mentioned above.you will see a little rpm variation only.all of these cams need headwork to get your moneys worth.also i haven't been on EVOM in 2-3 months so take it easy on me if i missed something and am totally off base here.

Mason,
You arent off base. The R2s did pick up 25whp over S2s on a stock cylinder head on Andrew's 2.0L IX and Red combo, but there is the chance that S3s would have done that. The difference as you judged, is the R2 doesnt give up spool (in fact it picked up), and the idle is a little more tame. These cams arent the end all be all, but they work the best for what Greg designed them for which is big motors and larger turbos. In my car for instance it makes peak power around 7900-8000 with these where the S2s were 7600 or so.

I may do one this summer. I'm just getting my car together but have the S3's. After I recover I might have Spec-Ops plug in a set and dyno (to see the differences).

i also opted for the billet crank in my 2.4L just to take advantage of these big,fat cams. that being said anytime i can save 200rpm and not lose or even gain power, just sign me up.
has anyone profiled/specked those STM650 cams yet?been curious about them as well.
the R2 seems like a great cam on paper that should be better than the S2 or S3 in 80% of the EVO motors out there.we definitely need someone to do another cam test between all of these large lobed cams.the S3,R2,STM650,F5,some of the racing kelfords(they make them as big as you need),Piper, etc
