JDM Rear Bumper, Exhaust, Tails, Trans 3/10/2013

Update pt. I - After about 1 1/2 months away from the car, finally some updates:

JDM Rear Bumper, Buschur Exhaust for JDM Fitment, mil.spec HFC, Taillights:

TRE Built 6spd, OEM Shifter Boot, Shifter Base Bushings

SS Brake and Clutch Lines + Amsoil DOT4 Brake Fluid (not shown)

Penguin Seat

I haven't driven the car around too much yet, but the exhaust sounds pretty good - though louder than I like (I like super quiet). Perfect fitment, as I knew it would be - I've had this exhaust before on the old evo, but with a larger muffler. I expected the trans to feel very stiff, as my Shep built 5 speed did during the break in - it absolutely does not. I'm excited, as it will only get smoother as time goes on. Car had a Bride-material shifter boot when I got it - while very nice, decided to go for the OEM leather - surprisingly soft and supple. The penguin seat is for the girlfriend, but I like it too

As the car sits now - Current Mileage: 22,643

pt. 2 coming soon! parts are on, just a lot to update at once - hints of it are caught in some of the pictures.

Current Ride Height:

A little lower than I'd like at the moment, but I will adjust it later when I've got more time!

What spring rates did you go with and did you flip flop the higher rates to the rear?

These are the GTWorx Ohlins, 8k/10k for front and rear. i almost literally haven't driven the car (side of the street into the garage, parked and sat) so i can't really give any feedback as of yet.

GTWorx advised me not to stick with an 8k spring. Theirs are 10k/10k I believe. Edit: Here is a link to a similar comment. https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/10697974-post3.html

I'm not sure what to do. Ohlins reps say you can flip the front springs to rear with stock valving which I think is what you have going on there. I'm not sure a revalve is worth the cost or not. Need some feedback from folks like you!

i'm on stock width summer tires - otherwise i think i would have gone with 10/12 i think - just saw that post - that's new to me.

Oh and I think GTWorx does include revalving - either that, or the springs that the Ohlins come with, in this case 10k in front and rear, are probably already valved for that rate.

It's the off the shelf stuff that you need to consider revalving about

Just took it for a quick spin - these coilovers ride amazingly - At first I honestly forgot I had coilovers on - the only thing that reminded me was that the steering had gotten much heavier. I would say these coilovers actually ride even better than the GTWorx + Bilstein setup I had before, as well as the stock setup and Robispec + Bilsteins. Really looking forward to taking this car for a spin at the next auto-x event and playing with the settings a little.

Codes 3/10/2013

I've had two codes since I've gotten the car back from the shop:

P0069 - Something to do with the MAP sensor possibly (have the Omni 4bar)
P0122 - Something to do with the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)

+ the issue of the wideband not transmitting the reading properly - it appears to read on the gauge appropriately but stay flat at 10.xxx for long periods of time when I got.

No idea why these are coming up, didn't have them before but both seem to be potentially related to some electrical issue. That, and the fact that the wideband I have isn't transferring the numbers it reads in the gauge into evoscan during logging properly. Hope to figure these problems out soon, but I'll start by clearing the codes and seeing if they return.

Wideband and Evoscan Don't Match 3/19/2013

Thought I'd post this here as well:

The wideband is an Autometer that was recently installed (but I've had on my old Evo for 4-5+ years) - installed from one car to another, and working perfectly before that. The o2 sensor itself is less than a year old. It seems to be reading right at the gauge, though I am running lean during cruise (15.4+).

While taking logs to tune the car, the wideband reading you get from Evoscan seems to be incorrect. I've tuned through this method for about 6 years now, and this has never happened before. So while the wideband reading at the gauge will bounce all around as usual, the wideband reading in evoscan sits at 10.0588235294118, 10.0294117647059, etc., or 10 flat and just sits there for extended periods of time.

FYI, the formula I have in Evoscan reads 10.00+(16.00-10.00)*x/204 , which is what I've had my wideband formula at for at least 4 years. Even if the formula were wrong, the evoscan read of the wideband shouldn't just sit at solid values for extended periods of time. Thoughts?

Hey Bud!

Finally decided to pop in here and give you some love. The car looks really clean, WW and GG have always been my favorite colors, although as you're probably aware AS is the fastest of them all!!!

The ride height looks solid IMO. I'm not a fan of slammed cars and I think yours looks just right. You could always raise it up a little bit but you just got it aligned so why screw that up right now?

What's going on with those codes? I am not familiar with those particular ones...did the P0069 only populate when you installed the Omni? Do you have the factory one that you could try throwing on there to help troubleshoot?

The P0122 is also quite strange. Have you touched your throttle body? Maybe you could send it into Mil.Spec to have him calibrate it?

As for the Wideband issue, that is also very strange. Maybe the Autometer gauge is finally crapping out on you. Ive been using the AEM Uego for the past 4 years now with no issues whatsoever so if you need to purchase a new one I would recommend that unit.

i heard wicked white was the fastest...

thanks, i'm fairly comfortable with the ride height now - maybe a smidge higher sometime in the future, but for now the alignment is spot on.

As far as the codes go, I think both were something electrical that popped up when the battery was disconnected, reconnected, etc. I cleared the codes and they haven't come back, and the throttle position looks okay in evoscan and the omni4bar is im sure fine otherwise i'd have other issues i think. I'll see if the codes come back, I only drove it ten miles after they popped up, so we'll see if there's an actual problem or not.

What I'm really confused is the wideband - it was working just fine before moving it into the white car - actually it seems to be working perfectly - exactly as before. I only found out when I logged with evoscan and it would just give this 10.xxx value. Don't get it..
