anyway, i'm hoping it's a great car.. believe it or not, i've owned it for 5 months now - no WOT pull, havent tested out the trans, rear diff, coilovers/suspension at all.. car hasn't been in running shape since the work I had done to it

i meant more of a steal to find an unmolested low mileage evo..
Small annoyance of an update - since I drive the Evo about once a month, I wanted to start it up and charge the battery yest before it was going to sit for the rear diff to be sent out - of course I had to jump it cuz I haven't driven it since mid May, and I have a security system. The jump must have blown out the headunit cuz it doesn't work anymore lol. I'll definitely need to look into getting an Optima Redtop.
After a month I started up my car and took it for a quick spin to walmart... and some ****ing moron (don't know who) gives me a nice graze.. hard to tell yes but this car was ****ign perfect before


Stock FMIC, Waxing Bolts, Trans Fluid Change - 6/23/2013
Finally had a chance to get under the car today to take care of a few things - I still haven't removed and sent out my rear diff yet - that's gonna have to wait until next weekend. I did manage to take care of a few things though:
Orange Wax on bolts:
Don't ask me why I hit a certain bolt - I don't know. I didn't know which to do, so I did every one that I saw. Figured it wouldn't do any harm at least. Big, big thanks to TommiM for sending this to me to give it a try.


It looks like it'll do its job, which is to cover the bolts. I'm not sure how durable it will be though - i.e., the car wash I usually run the evo through has a pretty powerful undercar spray. Maybe I'll run the evo through after a few days and see how it looks afterwards.
Trans Fluid Change:
First time tackling the 6 speed's trans fluid. I can't remember what the 5 speed was like, but this felt a lot easier. Luckily I bought hex bolts earlier in the year for the Min's trans fluid, and doing the Evo's was even easier. About 1500 miles on my TRE built 6 speed, so a little more than due for changing the break in fluid. PS. get a load of how clean the car is!




Swapping the FMIC to stock:
Switched to save weight, spool quicker, just do autox so I can spray down between runs, etc. I think the AMS FMIC was like double what the stock FMIC weighs, or at least felt like it. Incidentally, the AMS FMIC is now for sale.

Quick update:
Took the evo out for a quick spin last night, zero change in driveability with the stock FMIC in the car. Actually didn't notice any change at all, which for this is a good thing. I'll probably notice a change in AFR if I go WOT, which I haven't done yet in my entire ownership of the car (waiting on mechanical fixes, then tuning).
TRE 6spd has about 1,500 miles on it, and the transmission feels marginally smoother after the fluid change. I honestly think this is my favorite transmission, including the s2k's. The throws are short and solid, maybe not as crisp as the s2k's though. s2000's throws were extremely short for me, so I think the evo 6 speed feels just right. There's none of the blocky-notchiness that my Shep 5spd had, especially when it was just built. Even after thousands of miles the Shep still had trouble getting into R, etc., though it did overall get a lot better over time - so I've got high hopes for this trans.

Yeah, the transmission feels great, even cold it feels fantastic, TRE did a fantastic job with this thing. The trans was in good shape already, so he did his usual special treatments but didn't have to replace anything major or anything like that. Trans is super smooth and silky, and like you said it feels very tight - it really does remind me of the s2k transmission, but with longer throws - which I prefer in this case - the throws feel just perfect. I really wouldn't change anything about this transmission, definitely my favorite out of what I've driven. I still haven't driven the car hard either, not by choice unfortunately. Just need to do one last thing (send out the rear diff) and then it'll be good for tuning. Car is great though, my prized possession lol. Bought a Mini so I wouldn't have to drive it lol
Detail and Touch Up - 6/28/2013
Took my car to a local PDR shop to get that minor dent fixed and a detail job while I was there. It's not brand new of course, but I'm happy with the results, as it is about how I expected it would turn out.

NeverWet - 6/29/2013
Picked up some NeverWet from Home Depot yesterday to test out - this stuff is basically super hydrophobic repellent. I'm very confident this is the exact same stuff as Ultra Ever Dry, only much, much cheaper. I chose to try an oil catch pan because I hate wiping stuff off after emptying it, even for these closed top ones.

Instructions - I followed these pretty closely, minus the timing of the spray - but if anything I took longer than what it suggested. 2 coats of base and 2 coats of top:



Base Coat 1 (Wet) - Smells a LOT like nail polish remover:

Base Coat 2 (Dry):

Top Coat 1 (Wet):

Top 1 (Dry):

Top 2 (Wet):

It may just be me but I was unfortunately unable to get a very even, smooth coat with the spray system. I'll post a video of it in action tomorrow (Top Coat preferably takes 12 hrs for best results) so sorry for the tease. Hopefully it works as advertised!

Just gave NeverWet a shot - as expected, it works as advertised for water - however, it does NOT work for engine oil, which is a bummer. I'll post vids soon
