San Fransisco - Dec 17 - few spots left !
Al, I have a question. There was a little knock when you were tuning the car, but would turning down the max setting on the SMC kit make a difference (more methanol = more octane)? I believe you said max was set to 28 psi, but the car isn't boosting anywhere that high. If turning down the max setting will increase octane, can boost and timing go up even more? Changing the setting would require a retune of course.
If you prefer to discuss this via PM then we can. Thanks.

when tuning on 91 octane - the alcohol injection is a tuning AIDE - its not like running an alcohol injected car
I like to tune to avoid knock which is usually significantly supressed with alcohol injectiuon
many factors may increase the occurence of knock
My job in tuning is to find the knock threshold and set up the tune to run underneath the knock threshold with a resaonable margin of saftey
Knock is a very destructive force for internal combustion engines and which sould be avoided at any cost
Most cars on 91 octane with alcohol I set up at 25 - 26 psi peak
Yours seemed more happy at 23 psi - you may have a bad tank of gas or a boost leak which results in more back pressure
Your car seemed very fast and smooth to me
Hi Al,
With exception of the rain and traffic the tuning was a great experience to say the least. The slippery roads made your drifting test interesting.
Overall I'm pretty happy with the alky tune. Lots of mid range torque, holds 25psi to redline, no knock, afr 10.9-11.3, and on my stock turbo.
Thanks Again!

A very pleasurable machine to drive
I was running straight 'Union 76' 91 oct. pump gas.
And of course 100% VP Methonol in the SMC alky kit. Plugs were fresh NGK br7es @ .025.
One question Al, you mention to check the condition of the alky kit once in a while. Do I just hit the test button? What do I look for?
thanks.

You just push the test button every day one time to make sure the yellow light comes on and the car goes rich - slight stuble
76 seems to be the best gas in this area

Al, you won't believe it (of course you will). I am stuck and I can't make my 2pm appointment today. I just crawled out from under my car, when I went to gas up I heard a bunch of noise, rubbing noise. It turns out after mounting the BR downpipe and cat the whole assembly shifted into my driveline and almost wore through the intermediate muffler.....NOT GOOD! I am going to have to rig it just to get to the muffler shop next week. I am soooo sorry I really did my best but it just is not to be today. I will catch up to you at future dynoflash event. I WILL get my custome tune somehow, someway.
Again sorry for the inconvenience, hopefully someone will fill in for me.

I'm definitely going to check for boost leaks as you recommended. I was using Chevron gas, but I've heard that 76 around the area is better from other guys.
