After months of trying, looks like another North East EVO owner gets screwed. I was never rude or pushy. I was polite but persistent only asking for a valid reason of denial in writing and not specifically demanding that they replace the calipers. I was hoping this tactic would work in a benefical way to all but it did not.

Apr 8 '05: Initial report of pealing Brembos - Denied by dealer #1 in PA
Apr 10 '05: Opened up case with MMNA. Was told to see different dealer
May '05": Saw dealer #2 in NJ, got denied too
May 25 '05: Called MMNA asking for a valid reason other that "District manager said so". Customer Service unable to provide answer. Told Regional Rep would get back to me.
Oct '05: Nothing from MMNA, wrote a letter requesting reason for denial of fixing defect in writing
Oct 2x '05: Got call from district rep to meet him at dealer #2
Oct 28 '05: Met district rep. He took pics and said he needs to consult with regional rep.
Nov 10 '05: Got call back from district rep stating he is still waiting on regional rep
Dec 9 '05: Got call back from district rep. Will not replace as there is no safety or function defect. Asked for this to be put in writing
Jan 3 '06: Sent e-mail to district rep with reminder to provide reason in writing
Jan 9 '06: Received by e-mail official denial from MMNA that they will not fix this issue and that it is actually not even a defect. See for yourself:

Andy,

As I had stated in the past, there is no defect. This is a cosmetic issue regarding a suspension component. The brake caliper is not part of, or attached to, any portion of the finished/painted body panels (hood, fenders, etc.). There is no performance or any other operational issues with this part and no safety concerns are eminent.

So there you have it. I just can't stand the unfairness. If they are going to deny it, why is it not denied for all? Why is it so selective? That is just so wrong in my opinion.

Brembo calipers replaced

Sorry to hear you all having trouble with the dealers to replace your calipers. I had my front calipers replaced when I went in for an oil change. My service advisor just told me they were fading and were almost finished replacing them. A few months later,I told him about the back ones and they were not going to replace anymore, but he came through for me and 4weeks later I had new ones installed..I hope they were powdercoated better than the originals. I am now waiting for my carbon fiber wing to be replaced. This will be the second wing to be replaced.I wish everyone had a good service advisor who can get the job done for you.I haven't had to talk to any managers,he just asked and let me know when it will be done. Maybe it helps also that I have been doing all my servive not only on the Evoluiotn, but also when I had my Montero Sport at the same dealer.

What area of the country are you in? Please everyone, when you report on your success in getting your calipers fixed, tell us where you live, so we know if you have the same Mitsubishi rep we do.

Well... I'm going to powdercoat my calipers now. I tried repainting them and they look like crap now. I've been asking around about the powdercoating oven ruining the calipers and the general consensus is that they will be fine. I have a rebuild kit already purchased just in case (seals+boots, etc)

I will actually start a thread about it when I get it done...that is if anyone wants to know about it.

if you powdercoat them they will have to be completely striped down and then rebuilt.... lots of work... the key to painting them is to use automotive paint it wont give you any problems at all and will be a lot less time consuming....

clear coat pealing

Wow! Last week I noticed a small white flake on the upper edge of my caliper, I was going to touch it up with clearcoat touch up when it stopped rainning, well it didn't stop for a week! Friday, with clearcoat in hand I went out to touch it up, but now I find almost half of the caliper is pealing!

well, just when i thought i was free of this problem...tada! with 20k miles on my car, passenger front now has an area where clear coat formed sort of a bubble. it seems like this happened as a result of a bad brake bleeding job where brake fluid spilled from the drain bolt onto the caliper. My service manager called mitsu manufacturing and the rep there told me he'll be at the dealership sometime in June to look at my car. i'll post a pic when i get home.

UPDATE
from the 2nd pic, u can see the top of the caliper with huge chips in it, BUT the paint there is still perfect and no peeling. so the peel/blistering/bubbling is cause by something else, possibly a sloppy brake bleeding job.

UPDATE:

Met with district manager last week. he looked at my caliper and said that it does indeed look like a defect. That brake fluid possibly leaked on the caliper during assembly process. They ordered the caliper for me last week and i just got back from the dealer after they installed it. All under warranty.

IMPORTANT, READ BELOW:
The district rep specifically stated that they only replace them if it's obvious that the peeling is NOT caused by the owners cleaning their wheels with acidic wheel cleaners. He told me that when he sees ppl bringing in their cars with all 4 calipers having paint peeling in the way that traces out the lines of factory rims, it's a tall tale sign that the user was spraying his wheels with a harsh cleaner and hit the calipers. In those cases, there's nothing he can do for you, and i can't blame him.

i've warned people about the harsh cleaners in another thread about caliper paint before. Also, if you take ur car to automatic car wash, they might use similar cleaners in their spray nozzles. keep that in mind please.
