What is MMCFLASH?
MMCFlash utilises EvoScan 1.3U and 1.3R cables for reprogramming ECUs, most modules support OpenPort 2.0, and will soon support new EvoScan 2008+ CAN cables ($43USD). MMCFlash is downloadable software that supports the OpenECU community for openly shared roms and xml table definitions. There is no locking of reflashing software to one vehicle, and there is no software limit on the number of times you can read and write to the ECU.

MMCFlash has a design goal of reflashing (read and write) every type of Mitsubishi ecu and other makes and models as time permits. Some people save the rom files with file extensions of .rom .hex .bin, they are still all the same file, just named different. Please use the preferred format of Year_Model_SubModel_extras_Market_RomID.hex for example

EvoScan is mostly only designed for reflashing Evo7/8/9 with openport 1.3R cable or 1.3U cable. And of course datalogging and virtual dyno many types of vehicles. EvoScan can do editing of Fuel and Timing maps inside rom files.

EcuFlash is mostly only designed for reflashing Evo5/6/7/8/9/X with openport 2.0 cable. And of course editing rom files read using evoscan and mmcflash.

MMCFlash features 3 simple but very powerful operations:
1) Read ECU
2) Checksum & Write ECU (only the rom in memory being uploaded to the ecu will get the new checksum, not the file on disk. Read the ROM from the ecu afterwards to see the updated checksum.)
3) Write ECU.
Use Evoscan MapTracer or Ecuflash to edit map files based on openecu community xml files.

How do I find my vehicles ecu MH model number?
The MH model number is written on top of the main chip, which is on the circuit board inside your EFI ecu box in your vehicle.

There is a community database of roms and ecuflash xml rommetadatafiles available for many makes and models and will grow substantially over the coming months, upload any that you find on forums to this site: http://www.evoscan.com/roms/mitsubishi/

What if my Mitsubishi / Mazda / Nissan ECU is not supported by MMCFlash?

yes, thats correct mrfred, many of the above Mitsubishi ecus can not be flashed by ecuflash. there is a little bit of crossover but not much. the mmcflash modules above can even reflash Mitsubishi VR4 vehicles that previously needed to be socket-ed.

It is unfortunate that EcuFlash has not had the time to add support for the numerous Mitsubishi ecus out there, ecuflash has been funded directly via the cost of the openport 2.0 and openport 1.3U cables. MMCflash software cost will not be locked to one cable like ecuflash is, and the cost of mmcflash will be offset by purchasing it in conjunction with a broader market of cheaper cables in the future such as EvoScan Openport 1.3R and EvoScan CAN cables.

In my opinion Evo owners will continue to use ecuflash or evoscan standalone gps navigator for reflashing.

You would be surprised at how many Mitsubishi Colt and Mitsubishi Outlander vehicles are converted into mean lean driving machines using mmcflash Mitsubishi Colt has now released an RS version even.

You must speed read over things Good question though that might need further clarification. MMCflash by default contains no xmls, it is not even a map editor, as mentioned above, it has just 3 simple but powerful functions, read, checksum, and flash. You can edit maps in EcuFlash or edit Fuel/Timing maps in EvoScan MapTracer screen. XMLs are readily available by many in the OpenECU community... At this stage I have accumulated a lot of xmls and roms for all the above models of ecus. I will be posting them all on the EvoScan ROMs and XMLs database website. http://www.evoscan.com/roms/mitsubishi/
