Branden's self built BBY 6266
So having owned my 03 EVO8 GSR for a little over a year with basic bolt ons I am now ready for a big turbo build. Im an avid reader here on evom and have gotten a lot of good info from here as well as attending DSM Shootout last year, and I thing I have compiled that info into what I think is a nice stock block clean street car. Everything on the car was designed and built by me because I am somewhat of a perfectionist and nobody has done what I wanted yet. I hope everyone enjoys the pics and you can see me at DSM Shootout 2013 to see the car in person.
This years new mod list:
Engine:
Stock long block with 80K
Arp standard head studs
GSC S3 cams
Supertech duals with ti retainers
Custom FF tubular top mount manifold
3" 2 piece downpipe catless
Buschur 3" exhaust with kooks bullet muffler
PTE 6266 journal bearing
Tial 44mm mvr 22psi springs open dump
2.5" hot side charge pipe
3" cold side charge pipe
Tial Q BOV
Custom Garrett 4-1/2x12x24 intercooler
Custom catch can with -10 valve cover vents and -6 block vents
Koyo 1/2 size radiator an fittings
Buschur double pumper - 3/8 stainless feed line -6 lines from hard line through rail and regulator
Fuelab 10 micron stainless inline filter
FIC fuel rail
FIC 2150cc injectors
Fuelab mini regulator
Ported stock intake manifold w/ Phenolic intake manifold spacer
Omnipower 4bar map sensor
Competition stage 4+ clutch
Act street light flywheel
STM clutch fork stop
Blox motor front motor mount
Hallman pro mbc
Tephra v7 Speed density tuned by Tom at TScomp
Exterior:
Du Luck carb fiber front lip
Carbon fiber Mitsubishi emblem
Genuine EVO 7 tail lights
EVO RS trunk lid
Black housing headlights by myself
Stock EVO 8 wheels painted black by myself
Suspension/brakes:
All 4 calipers redone and painted by myself stock pads and rotors
Stance GR+ coilovers
Engine bay when I first got it
After some cleaning up and custom digi camo painting by myself
How the car sat last year
No the work begins, everything being removed that I not needed
Yea removing lots of stuff, ditching the factory radiator support
Interior ripped apart too. Completely removed the ac system as well as doing the wire tuck
Pugged the egr port on the head with a 1/8npt stainless plug
Went through a lot of wires, everything will be tucked as well as relocated
New goodies came in, Supertech duals and titanium retaners
As well as the GSC S3 have heard great things about these cams
Supertech vs stock pretty big difference here
Head all done. Cams, valvesprings, and retainers installed
I chopped the frame 7" back for clearance and to reduce some weight
Stock 8 turbo vs PTE 6266
Regular 6266 isn't cutting it for me, looks way to plain
And after a lot of sanding and polishing m happy with how it came out.
Stock intake manifold looks horrible but performs so well so I decided to dress it up. Everything was shaved on it, and the freeze pg on th end was removed and welded an aluminum plate on the end to smooth it out, also I tapped it for 1/8npt to make fitting easy to install and swap out.
I did a full port and polish on it. I went all the way back on the runners right into the plenum, and smothed out the throttle body opening as well
After metallic powder coat with clear, FIC 2150, and FIC rail
Buschur double pumper
Stock feed vs my 3/8 stainless feed line
Koyo 1/2 radiator and I welded on -16an fittings top and bottom
Radiator installed with -16an lines, also polished up the thermostat housing a little and installed mishimoto low temp thermostat
Made a custom catch can utilizing two -10an and two -6an fittings
sanded down and painted stock engine mounts
My first merge collector. Its an 11.5degreee so its super high flow as well as fully ported and polished
First runner made
Manifold all tacked up
All welded up and looks pretty good
Head flange welded up used with a torque plate to eliminate chances of warping. The manifold was also fully back purged for really strong and clean welds.
Now that the manifold is done I got to work on the front end. I made it out of 1-5/8" chromoly tubing and 1/2" chromoly tubing. Stronger and lighter than stock and is also way cleaner.
Me doing some welding
Wastegate dump welded and polished up
Made a 3"mandrel v-band downpipe
Lots of frustrating wiring to do
Intake manifold and valve cover powder coated
More goodies, blue Tial MVR and Garrett 4-1/2x12x24 intercooler core
Finished the intercooler up, made custom end tanks and its a backdoor style so it basically eliminates the nee for a licp as its part of the intercooler. Had to polish it while I was at it
Intercooler installed
UICP finished up all in one piece and installed blue TIAL Q
All parts pretty much fabricated so its time to start shaving and painting. All the brackets and extra holes in the bay were cut off and welded shut to make everything very smooth
All primed and sanded
Now a bay better than factory
Now I can start putting everything back together. EVO RS master cylinder and custom copper nickel brake lines installed. Relocated the power steering reservoir and deleted the steering cooler
Manifold on and looking good
Had the catch can powder coated wet black to match and finished up the lines
Also made the coolant overflow and was also coated wet black
Fusebox relocated into the glovebox
Repainted all the grills on the car also makes it look way better

Well I always wanted a top mount kit because I like the long runner design but also wanted a ff manifold. So I just put the two together and started playing around with a couple different designs that would make it pretty much as close to equal length as I could get and also make it easy to work on. I can take my turbo off in only a couple minutes

Tom sent me a pic of it in aim, WOW man. Great job with everything. Car looks so damn good. IM not a fan of the bby color honestly, but yours looks amazing!!
I just dont know where guys get the patience to mess with the wiring lol. Thats what holds me back from doing anything like that. haha

Glad to finally see a build thread for this car. Definitely a very interesting manifold setup! I really like what you did with the intake manifold, I plan on doing the same to mine...hopefully this winter. Engine bay is very clean, great job sir. Do you plan on running the car before or at the Shootout? I am definitely interested in the results.

Very nice and I can appreciateall the work you have done after watching my builder the exact same buld excpet standard top mount.I myself have loved the look of the top mount and FF tossed between the two but did I think of a topmount FF. I also run a 6266 with S3 cams but mine is a built 2.0LR and a CNC ported race head. Tom done a great jonb on your tune my hats off to both of you guys. Here is a few pics of my manifold.
