Joey V Chasing the Evo Record - 2014 "Junk Box" Build - Boostin Performance
SubscribeThe Junk Box is officially being renovated and is undergoing construction.
With the racing season fast approaching, Joey V and his Junk Box Evo 9 are preparing for the season to start. For 2014 Joey has a particular goal in mind....... Currently the Evo record in the USA is 8.42 in the 1/4 mile, and Joey's goal for the year happens to be 8.41!! Recently the Junk Box was featured in DSPORT magazine where Joey made his goal known, "Now I have a new objective: To become the quickest Evo down the 1320 in the USA."
Last year went great for Joey and the Junk Box with a best E.T. of 8.77 on a PTE 6466. Later in the 2013 season Joey switched to a FP Super 99 but struggled with traction issues due to some very cold track temps. Joey managed to go 8.80 at close to 170 MPH with the FP Super 99. Even with 1/8 mile times almost .2 slower when compared to his 8.77 pass.
How the car was raced last year:

Wilwood Small Brake kit (Rear)
15” Rota Slipstreams Black / 24.5" M/H Slicks For The Drag Strip
The changes being made to the Junk Box for the 2014 season include:
Weight reduction
This is our main focus for the car this year. When dropped off, the Junk Box weighed in at 2,541 pounds without Joey in the car.
The car makes plenty of power, but the Junk Box is just too heavy. To put this into perspective, other drag Evo's weigh between 2,100-2,300 pounds...... We are hoping to get at least 75 pounds out of the Junk Box.
Engine and Drivetrain
This will remain the same as last year. We performed a compression and leak down test and everything tested perfect - no need to touch any of it! We will be installing a Magnus Cast IM setup for dual fuel rails.
Chassis
We plan on removing the entire rear section of Joey's cage. Why you ask? Well, the cage was not setup correctly for the chassis. There are 6 extra bars in the rear that do nothing and need to go. The main hoop was also not triangulated, meaning you could push the main hoop sideways. Not good. Our goal is to build a cage that is correct for his chassis, lose some weight, and make the cage safe and NHRA certifiable.
We can't tell you everything yet, so check back often for updates and pictures!

Awesome, good luck Joey & the Boostin Crew! I've always enjoyed seeing Junkbox go quicker throughout the years.
I didn't see it posted but still running stock wheel bearings? Have you guys thought about switching to Curt's Ceramic bearings?

Awesome - That time has stayed for way too long, considering how many quick EVOs there have been since!
Good luck - to all of you... awesome challenge
Look forward to seeing how this progresses
