The Philippine's Auto Bahn
what everyone is doing is using is the sanden 505 or the next bigger one (cant remember the number 510 ata)
everyone has been having great success with this setup, lumalamig talaga.
the trick is to make sure you mount the evaporator on the front apron of the beetle para bang FMIC.
If you need expert advice call my friend jon porto. he is located in panay avenue behind abs-cbn. he competes at the all vintage races in subic and BRC and drives a yellow and a red KG his number is 09178309434
Cge, thanks! I will definitely get in touch with him when I am in Manila. I am now based in Davao.
How is the sanden aircon? I was getting bad reviews before that sandens do not last that long. When they are new, they are very cold daw, but it doesn't last daw. They supply Toyota with the aircons and Toyotas here are known to have lousy aircons. Maybe I can get the exact specs of the Sanden 510 and see if I can find a Nissan compressor and evap with similar specs. So the evap is mounted inside the trunk area (sa harap) or there is a space somewhere in front where the trunk does not need to be accessed?
Another question, have you had problems with overheating since Beetles does not have radiators?
I am really new with Beetles so I may need to contact your friend. I am keeping the motor bone stock, it will be my daily driver.

i have had the A/C in the beetle about 8 years now and the last 2 times i went home pina charge ko lang yung sanden and ok na siya. never had a problem with overheating. best thing to do is add an external oil cooler.
i am kinda surprised cuz i have never really heard anything bad about the sanded 505 or the 510, if you look at beetles with A/C i would say 8 out of 10 naka sanden sila. some i know have gone into the daihatsu compressors as they are smaller and lesser load daw sa engine.
yes, there is a space between your gas tank and the hood. so if you are looking at your car from the front it seems you have a FMIC.
kontakin mo lang si jon i am sure he can help you out. also check www.vwcp.org

vid was bleh but the camcorder mount must have had an auto leveling thing-a-ma-jig (or the camcorder itself??) on there as it was very level compared to the movement of the car...
