Is the Evo a very popular car in AUS?

I know you guys have some awesome cars there like the Skyline R34 and Supras etc. How is the Evo? Are they hot cars?

Can people afford them over there or are they over priced? How is the economy in general?

Hi There,

The Evo is quite popular as its dropping in price especially the older models. When i bought my evo 9 in 2007 brand new it cost me just over $57,000 AUD so there not cheap by any means compared to USA prices.

There pretty popular which is also a downside especially when you start seeing them pretty oftern. here in australia we also have Ford falcon turbos which are a 6 cylinder 4.0L GT35R turbo from factory in sedan and utility.
The economy is great atm especially for travelling to the US which i am in July & August but not so good for exporting as alot of foreign countries or companies get pay more for the product obviously.

Below i’ve attached a link to show you what the Ford looks like.

Hey mate,

its pretty cool they can be bought at many import car yards quite easily same with 1989 ( R32 through to R35 GTR)
Mind you the R35 GTR is $190k AUD drive away :(

The thing i envy most about the USA is the cheap evo parts and cars alike.. id love a F150 Raptor

Mate we have had all the Evo's. GTR's etc here in N.Z - You still see a few nice examples of the earlier models around.

I lived in Brisbane for a few years and would say N.Z has more options in the way of performance Jap imports and the prices are reasonable.

Not saying that Brisbane didnt have any mean cars, I sure did see a few when I was there.

But for someone with a small budget <20K, I would say you have more options in N.Z for a decent Jap Import.

Example: I drive a family type 4WD - Airtrek - Ralliart Turbo R. Picked it up for 12K with 65,000 on the clock.

Yeah well even here in the smallest state of Tasmania and there are plenty of nice skyline's of all type's and quite a few evo's around aswell...I have a evo 7 GT-a which is bagged abit for having abit smaller turbo and being auto but it has all way extra comfy bits which makes it nice and not the annoying driving for regular start and stop of regular driving, u have manual pad changing option and so many extra's + with the power of mine upgraded to 263KW or 351 HP at wheels I still have the best of both world's I think...only 2000 ever made of these type's but ofcourse I can't go to full-on with power as the auto most likely wouldn't take it, But mine at 102xxx kms or just over 60xxx miles is still going great and perfect.

Dunno about other states but at least the evo doesn't get picked on too much by cops in SA. Having owned a few other imports the evo has given me least police attention. (I've had 2 other cars defected and constantly pulled over) They love to pick on anything that isn't a Holden/Ford.
