Canadian ECU Lancer 2008+ Self Recall efforts

Lately, things have become more puzzling with Mitsubishi, getting them to admit that our ECU has been more or less Lobotomized. After some funny Dyno sessions we suspected there was something a foot. Mitsubishi Canada couldnt answer any technical questions. That is exactly what they said, they only could tell me to "please inquire with your local dealership" lol so i did. they know that our ECU is different but wouldnt explain what that meant.

After consulting with WORKs engineering, they confirmed that of the Canadian Spec ECUs received for tuning, they couldnt figure out why the baseline results were not consistant with either the USA PZEV spec or the USA FED spec. the ECU acted strange! When we asked question back and forth we were able to identify similar behavours during dyno testing.

Which led me to take this up with Mitsubishi USA since they call the shots for North America. I put it to them straight.

1. The ECU seems to be electronically Detuned, is this true and how much are we talking about. If its not detuned, what is wrong with it.
Answer " we will speak with our technical safe and get back to you"

2. I am going to assume the answer is yes its detuned or mamed in some way, what can be done like this, is there a normal Canadian Flash?
Answer " we will speak with our technical safe and get back to you"

3. Am I able to install a USA spec ECU in my car and preserve my warranty?
Answer " we will speak with our technical safe and get back to you"

4. While your at it, Can you also ask if I a Canadian lancer owner goes to the United States of America and receive a ECU flash from a USA Mitsubishi dealership, will this preserve my Warranty Agreement?
Answer " we will speak with our technical safe and get back to you"

As you can see they couldnt answer my question, but i dont fault them , they are the front line customer service staff. But I was assured that they would investigate the matter and get me answers.

I will keep everyone posted. If any of the options pan out, i will for sure get that information published and out in the open

I have already talked to a few Buffalo area dealers for just such a cruise, but we have also talked briefly with WORKS to explore alternative options as well.

Still doing research. Trying to figure out the legal ins and outs and figure out what is different about our ECU. I have been feed info by Mitsbu Canada and USA that its to comply with Environmental Standards. seems a little funny, because on paper there is no SPEC difference between the USA and Canada Lancers.

I am currently trying to find the Canadian body in charge with approving the Lancer for entry into Canada. Also made contact in Japan to get some answers there on the manufacturing level.

MITSU Canada's Official take on REFLASHING YOUR ECU to THE USA spec is.....

"IT WONT VOID YOUR WARRANTY RIGHT AWAY. BUT IF SOMETHING HAPPENS, THEN ITS VOID!
Well then that works out well.

But thats not good enough for me so far. I want to know why is it messed up

Bet your *** we are going to get to the bottom of this.

Mitsubishi wants to know how many people would really be interested or i should say how many people are affected/bothered by this ECU issue?

My question to you is, Would you pay to have your ECU reflashed to the USA spec?
Assuming its a 2 hour drive to buffalo, 1 hour wait and a cost of about 1 hour labour.

Would you do that for the extra performance gain for your mods?

i guess for many people, it depends what the gains are. but 1 hour labour doesnt sound that expensive if the gains are worthwhile

How much of the difference are we talking about here? Power gain? How much is this?

lets put it this way. Remember the dyno day. Remember when we did the INJEN intake and it gained like 1 - 3 hp. lol the difference would be by about 4hp more. it was like that for all the intakes we tried there. Actually this would explain why my very early tests had Short Rams actually losing power
