Use this calculator to check what you will "ACTUALLY" pay...
I just found that the other day and find it funny that the "outrageous" COD fee are actually predictable.
rule of thumb... use UPS if you can make the seller declare for 20$ and under .... or just use USPS... =)

I buy nearly everything from the States. Prices are much lower even with fees, and their customer service puts any canadian company that I've dealt with to shame. They respond to emails, provide any technical support, and ship when they say they will.
With regards to brokerage fees, as the OP said, try to use USPS (not UPS) whenever possible. The only fee you may get is taxes.
BBQman... can you suggest some of the reputable, priced right Canadian companies.

UPS or any shipping company you would use.. they offer benefits for members like
brokerage fees and taxes discount.. If I knew back then I wouldnt have paid $650 for
brokerage.. and taxes... .. anything 3000 worth over.. add another 500 on that.. atleast...

UPS has some ridiculous fees. Lately ive been using usaddressinc.com and have been very happy with their service. It gives me an address to ship my packages to in the US and they charge like 3 bucks per package under 50 pounds so its dirt cheap. Good way to beat the ridiculous shipping costs and charges involved with shipping from US to Canada. Its nice and close to the boarder so it doesnt even take me long to get there.
