driving to yellowknife

I'm thinking about driving my evo from vancouver to yellowknife, probably in mid December.

Is there anyone here having done it before at this time of year?

I saw the ferry is still open but could be closed without notice due to ice condition. And bisons are said to be everywhere around Hwy 3.

Besides winter tires, what else do I need for my car?

heheh , trying to be funny here... but you'll want a brush guard for those bison.

otherwise... block heater.. and maybe bring an extra fuel pump relay with ya... i hear they don't work that great in the cold.

also i'm guessing you wont be able to get high octane fuel there.. you may want to scale back your tune to a lower octane tune. maybe randomly call gastations along the route. or let the ecu pull timing but make sure your not on the boost a whole lot.

also make sure you dont end up on a highway where gas stations are more than 500km apart.. also bring some gas line antifreeze.. the weather said the other week the day time high was -29 in inuvik, bring an emerg kit with blanket and food
