RE: Anyone else's car HATE the cold
 

So I got up this morning and my car was like a giant hunk of ice.
So is anyone else's car making strange noise's in the cold? When I was pulling out of my driveway there was a pretty audible ticking/creaking sound coming from the front...I think it may have been the P/S rack.

Well you want to make sure you start your car properly expecially in the cold but you should be doing it all the time.
When you get in your car. Turn the key to acessory and wait for the Check Engine Light to turn off. This will ensure you have fuel and oil pressure in your engine.
Let your car warm up. I dont mean the inside of the car being a sauna but 5 munites should do the job. You wan't to make sure that your engine is ready to go before you take off.

Yeah....I did that .... but I was still sooooo friggen sluggish...Also, I just noticed we don't have a "low wiper fluid" warning light....

No it kinda sucks. But you do get one last little squirt after you run out.

LOL......yeah...its your bottle saying "ANNNNNND I'm spent" hehe

the ticking is from the valves..

the power steering was frozen
the shocks were frozen
the inside of the windshield was frozen
the tranny was frozen, can't even shift out of first to neutral for the first 2 minutes

the car turned over verrrry slowly..

Finally, it's good to see someone who does the same thing I do year round. {thumbup}

I've also noticed if you drive your car before it's warmed up, you'll notice a little "jumping" when then turbo starts to spool up in 2nd gear. You gotta let this tuff warm up to operating temperature.

i know what u mean i had the ticking coming from the left front of the car for the first five minutes or so of driving this morning...it was like 11 degress here...car scares me in the cold with its wierd noises

yeah ive been reading about this a lot, the other day my car starting stumbling a bit, checked that the oil was good, but it was missing a bit, filled it up to the center, then warmed it up just to make sure the oil warmed up well for about 7 to10 minutes and the car felt fine after. also if you run your car hard sometimes, meaning hitting close to redlines every day or other day, check your oil to see if its good and top it off. also heating up your car just about 2-5 minutes everyday in the morning works great, also a turbo timer really helps, because usually when i get home at night and get ready to go to sleep if i dont let my car idle for a good 2-3 minutes, the next day, it seems like the car's a bit more shaky, warming up your car is important even if it's new, just because of the turbo, also letting your car idle will not only give you longer life, but it will make your oil cool down properly. everybody probably knew this already, but just telling it like it is, and putting my two cents.

Yeah....we can all relate to that turbo problem...hehe

auto start it and leave it idle for 15 min before u pop the shifter and drive.

it's a waste of gas and time to leave it idle

just drive it slowly for the first 10 minutes and it's fine
