Please Help Me: AP Logs and ?'s

I got my AP in the mail a few days ago and installed the stage 1 93 octane map. The car is a bone stock 2011 GSR. Ive been logging while I drive but dont really know what is acceptable in terms of the numbers. I see the knock sum is mostly 0 but sometimes when Im in boost it'll reach a value of 1 or 2 for four or five consecutive cells. Is this normal? Safe? I'd post a map but I'm too computer retarded. As far as knock sum is concerned what is the safe? What else should I be looking at? Any help is really appreciated here, thankyou.

without seeing the log its hard to tell but 1-2 "counts" for a few hundred RPM is no big deal

If I email or Pm you a log would you look at it for me?

Post your log here.....

Dont know how to post a full log file but ^ that is an example of the highest knock sum counts. I watered it down and it still doesnt really post up in a readable way. If anyone can kinda interpret whats going on that'd be really helpful. The LTFT and STFT were both 0's during this particular portion so I deleted them and some other stuff. Most of the time when Im in boost I get one or two cells of 1 count or 2 but then sometimes I get something more like this. 10-15 cells of 1,2, and 3 counts. Id say there are way more instances of knock count during boost than not.

try the 91 map its a bit richer then try ACN

I swapped over to the 91 MAP and got the following:

Boost (PSI) Ign. Advance (∞) Knock Sum (count) RPM (RPM)
0.35 35 0 5343
2.33 30 0 4968
4.36 29 0 4843
6.54 26 0 5062
9.3 21 0 4906
12.68 18 0 5093
16.36 14 0 5093
20.08 10 3 5125
22.84 8 2 5187
24.48 7 2 5218
24.87 7 1 5312
24.24 8 1 5343
23.28 9 1 5406
22.31 11 0 5468
21.39 12 0 5562
21.05 12 0 5593
21.1 13 0 5656

That was the worst of the knock. So I guess its an improvement. I will try the 91 ACN map later today. Am I basically looking for all 0's in the knock sum? Was the first set of numbers I posted dangerous? I noticed that the RPM's dont steadily increase, like they jump up and down. Is this normal? I think maybe I was letting off. Fear of destruction getting to me perhaps? Thankyou for helping. I will try the ACN and report back. Is this a fairly normal situation? I live in GA and I imagine our 93 is crap.

My logs gets peppered with 1 and 2 counts but with zeros here and there, just not a whole string of them together. I think if you have them but not all in a row it's okay. I've been told by Cobb it's of concern if it's at WOT; with that said, I'm not sure if they mean at the throttle mashed to the floor or high rpms or both. If switching to the more conservative maps yields less knock counts all in a row like you had in your log, then that's a good thing. {thumbup}

I tried the can map and while the knock count goes down so does power, a lot. I can't even notice a difference between it and stock. I read a post that I shouldn't be concerned. Something about oem tune producing knock counts on the order of 15 occasionally. I've noticed that all the maps run crazy rich. When I go wot in Low light conditions I can see tons of black smoke in the headlights of cars behind me. I've since switched back to the 93 map and plan on using ATr to pull some fuel and timing. How is the timing on the ots maps? Aggressive? Conservative? I may just pull a degree or two and see what happens. I've just been crazy busy. I build motors on weekends and I've been swamped by friends with sti's lately.

GeeDubz Oct 18, 2011 12:34 PM

That's crazy that you are still running rich and blowing smoke out the tail pipe. Something else must be very off with your match-up of maps. I'd email Cobb your datalog and let them give you an expert analysis to be safe.

For me, I've tried all of the Stage1+AEM maps and they all feel very similar but can tell the different boost settings make a slight difference. Now I'm just trying to understand what each monitor means so I can assess what is considered to be the best output while staying within safe parameters shown in my datalogs. Unfortunately, this is all very new to me and not having any tuning experience, trying to catch bits of wisdom in all the chatter on all the forums that has info on AP used in Evo X's.
