Well Al is comming to Ak to tune some evo's and I'm going to get mine tuned... Is there a way to have more than one map with this free software?

Well, this seems to be the best thread to ask this in.....

I've yet to get an Evo, I'm still searching and researching. I see from other posts that 93 octane gas must be what the manual says. I'm not sure if we have 93 octane where I live, but I know for a fact we have 92 octane. Will that 1 less octane rating cause a lot of performance loss? It seems to run fine in my Cobra, but it's NA. If I were to get an evo, it'd be my first F/I car.

Koromose, come on, there are parts of the country that only have 91 like the entire Western half of the country, so all cars are able to run on at least 91oct. In stock form, you won't know the difference. It will only affect you as you start modding - you won't be able to be as aggressive with boost, timing, and AFRs with lower octane.

TurboIX, um, yeah man...you need to keep up with the times and read the EcuFlash sub-forum up above. You can make as many maps as you want and flash whichever map you want whenever you want. YOu just need the flashing cable, the free software, and a laptop. When Al tunes you, he will do both a pump gas and race gas map for you if you want - you just need to bring some race gas for the 2nd tune. He doesn't charge extra and gives you both maps. He also keeps the cables with him at all times so that customers can buy them if they want.

Sorry man I'm new to this Evo tuning I'm comming from a Fi Acura so this is different...from what I can see this stock ECU is very very good...It already has a USB port and everything for dataloging and everything..WOW good stuff.

You should just invest in alcohol injection right now.

I feel bad for everyone. They should have 94 octane in all 50 states at the pump. I dont understand why they dont.

I'm going to go mix some 104 with my crapy 90 and see if I feel a difference..90 octane felt like complete and utter Crap!. I was just thinking " Wow if this is how fast my EVo is then can we say OVERRATED!!"

That will only make it cost an extra $2-3 each fillup, which is worth it. 1 gal of 104 with 13 gallons of 90 would be 91oct.
Screw that noise. The last I'd thing I'd want to do is mix fuel. What, go to the pump with a little gas can of race fuel in the trunk? EVERYTIME?

90 octane shouldn't blow up the motor with the stock ECU. The knock sensor will say whoa and tell the computer to pull timing. Hell, I'd be willing to bet 87 octane won't blow up the motor either; It would only decrease performance due to timing changes and maybe some other adjustments as well.

Engineers make the stock ECU to handle alot of crap a moron can throw at it, even putting in 87 octane. Mistakes happen, why make it expensive and have it blow up when you can tune it to handle lower octane as well?

You're right. I'm from Alaska too and I'm tired of this HORRIBLE gas. My Evo is stock but I know it can go a lot faster with better gas. I just started using Xylene (117 octane). I put 1 gallon of Xylene on a full tank (It will raise to about 92 almost 93 octane). I felt the difference. However, everything here in Alaska is more expensive especially in Delta Junction, and they charged me $20 for 1 gallon of Xylene, OMFG!!!. I'll definitely look for it everywhere in Fairbanks. It should be cheaper somewhere.
