New 1/4 Time

Track was Silver Dollar Raceway. Mods are TBE(test pipe), walbro, megan o2 and exhaust manifold, mbc and tuned @ 22 psi, and 2-step at 5800. Temperatures ~ 65-70 degrees and on 3-4 gallons of 93 oct. Still having 2nd/3rd gear synchro problems but I'm getting the tranny rebuilt from Shep, going in for rebuild in 3 weeks...

1st run of the night
R/T - .458
60' - 1.706
330 - 5.298
1/8 - 82.61
1000 - 10.701
1/4 - 12.811
MPH - 109.11

Best run..

R/T - .534
60' - 1.695
330 - 5.213
1/8 - 8.173
MPH - 83.42
1000 - 10.676
1/4 - 12.693
MPH - 109.17

Ended up being pretty consitent over the night, had a good run where i pulled a 1.64 60' but got locked out of 2nd gear so ended running a 12.85... pretty sure it may have yielded me a close to 12.5xx pass or something, but oh well... Critique my runs! Oh ya... lifted every shift and shifting @ 7100-7200

You're getting better, but my only guess is the shifts are really slow, and that could be caused by your hesitance to shift fast due to the lockout problem. That 1.695 60' with a 109.1 should have been a 12.3, so you're losing tons of time in the shifts. I would contend that your problems have nothing to do with the tranny and everything to do with the clutch, so you may want to play with the clutch adjustment before spending big bucks on a trans upgrade. Of course, I wholly support and recommend going to Shep if and when you do get the trans upgraded, but that's a huge step for someone with so few mods.

What clutch do you have, and have you done all the basic modifications to troubleshoot your lockout problems: adjust clutch rod outward, SS clutch line, remove restrictor, fresh fluid, etc?

I have the Exedy Organic with lightened fly wheel. I've tried adjusting clutch rod from the back to the front, and testing every point out, if my 2nd gear is fine, my 3rd gear acts up, and sometimes both act up, but mostly 3rd gear acts up. I got it to the point where 2nd gear is fine unless I rev over 7000 and 3rd gear is always messed up anytime I shift after 6500. I've gotten the SS clutch line put it, removed the restrictor, put in new fluids on diffs/tranny. So I think its just pretty safe to assume it may just be the synchro's themselves... even tho the other parts helped remedy the situation, the problem still exists.

Thanks again Warr, always good to hear your thoughts

I still don't think it's the synchros, because I had the same lockout problems on my 6spd when I installed a crappy organic single disk like that. I was able to adjust the clutch enough to get it to work for a while, then it came back. Instead of touching the trans, I upgraded the clutch to one that wouldn't lock out, and I never had another problem since then even after 250 drag runs. I was convinced that my 3-4 synchro was damaged due to it grinding almost every time I shifted (fast or slow), but after the clutch upgrade, it went away for good, which tells me it was the clutch causing what I thought was a trans problem.

One thing that doesn't make sense is how when you adjust the rod, different gears act up - that just makes no sense at all.

I promise you thats what happens when I try adjusting it closer or further. But I'll try adjusting it some more and see what I can come up with. Be back in a bit with more details..

Just go out, not in. Go to the edge until it is almost out of threads.

When you mean out, do you mean all the way towards the driver seat or all the way to the firewall? I just put it all the way it could TOWARDS the driver and its still acting up on the 2-3 shift.

Hmm, Exedy sent me their stg2 single disk 4-puck cerametallic to try, and that's what I was referring to in that post. Once that was installed, it was harsh for getting started in 1st, but for racing, it was a dream. I wrote a long review of it in the parts review forum. Then, after my successful testing, Exedy released it to the market and send me their Twin Carbon to try next. That is now in there, and I will be testing it at many racing venues when the new season begins. It's already way better for daily driving and holds any power I give it even with a high rpm slip, but I haven't gotten to get any racing results yet due to the time of year.
