First day at the track...ever...IX MR

Wanted to take the stock IX MR to the track to get some base times before I do any performance mods. (just have the 2-step set to 5600)

I have never been to a drag strip and haven't ever really done any hard launches elsewhere.

I know, it is only an 1/8 mile track, but that's pretty much all I have around me atm.

I need to get my reaction times better and shift better. I think the SS clutch line will also help significantly....it is now on my list of priorities.

Anyways, here are my 2 best timeslips:

17 was a Silverado SS and 18 was a Z28, both guys I work with.

I know my technique sucks...still have alot to learn....BUT I HAD A BLAST!!
7 races and 7 wins.
Never really tried to line up with anyone inparticular. However, an SS Camaro asked me to try n get lined up with him. He said his next car would be an Evo after the race.
Lined up with:
SS Silverado x2
Lexus IS300
Z28 Camaro x2
SS Camaro
Some old, tubbed, supercharged Camaro.... lol, he hit RED on the line so I won, heh. Was still not too far off his *** though.

My Stage 1 parts should be here next week....might even convince the wife to let me order up Stage 2 tonight then off to the track again!

BTW, it is only 1/8, even though the slip says 1320. lol. No 8 second 1/4 for me!

reaction time has nothing to do with your time.. you could sit at the light for 10 seconds and still run those times... now if your racing head to head with something. reaction time matters.. but as far as times go.. its not accounted for in the final time

Pretty slow for a IX. I know you're new, but the 1.9 60' is fine for a newbie. That will improve over time, but the 80mph 1/8th trap is pretty weak. I also hit a 1.9 60' when I was stock, but it was an 8.4@80 on my 05 MR. I'm not sure why you hit the same 60' but were 3/10 slower at the same speed. Might need to work on the shifting, too. Another issue may be the 1/8th-mile track itself. Rarely do they give accurate readings - I would find a real 1/4 track if you can, even if it's a long drive.

As far as the clutch line, it's a good mod, but it's by no means necessary for being able to launch and shift fast. I went 12.0s with 1.6 60's before I ever bothered to touch the clutch line or restrictor valve. Again, it's a good mod to do, but it doesn't need to be a top priority.

Btw, is there a reason you have that Forge DV in you sig? You know your stock DV is excellent, right? That is not an upgrade on your IX. What are your stg1 mods, and what do you consider stg2? Just curious, since "stg1" and "stg2" are not standard mods on the Evo like they may be on other cars. I don't actually know of a stg2 for the IX unless there's one that includes the recently released cams.

As mentioned, R/T is irrlevant unless it's a competition. Likewise, since you weren't competing, then the fact the guy redlined didn't matter either. In test'n'tune, if the guy is faster, he's faster, so if his ET was quicker, you don't really claim that you won. Now, if someone challenges you to some heads-up, then it all matters from the moment the lights drop until whoever crosses the line first, but otherwise, the "win" is usually depending on the quicker ET for non-competitive test'n'tune. Contrary to the R/T not mattering, the 60' definitely is important - it's the most important. Work on that, and your times will drop considerably.

Thanks for the input Warrtalon.
I know for a fact my shifting is off. This was my first day of driving the car real hard and I kept hitting the rev limiter. I'll learn it, just need practice. The track has its problems I'm sure, and if most tracks rarely give accurate readings this one is prolly far off. Just didn't seem "very professional" ... can't really explain it.

I'm not quite sure where the closest 1/4 is, but my friends that regularly go to the track say its too far off for regular weekends. They do hit it on occasion and I now plan to follow along when they do.

The Forge DV ... impulse buy really. Whatever, I wanted something shiny and I got it.
As for the stages, I'm basically going by the Buschur build. Stage1, mine I guess, TBE - MBC - Buschur Intake filter/Pipe - Jestr M1 Flash. Figured my Stage 2 would consist of the Buschur UICP, LICP, battery kit and cams.

You wanted something shiny, so you got something that wasn't an upgrade? MMM, k. Next time get something like the Buschur manifold cover - now THAT is shiny, and it doesn't remove an excellent part that shouldn't be removed.

Your stg1 is on the money (like the one in my sig) except for the intake and pipe. Your stg2 is good with LICP and cams - those are the good mods.

Hmm, why do I feel if I try to back my "impulse buy" for any reason I'll just receive "The Warrtalon Scolding" to a greater degree? .. lol.

Anyways .... thanks again for the input. I used your name in my fact finding forum searches while trying to map out my build. It might not be the Warrtalon/Buschur Package, however, I think it will meet both my wants and needs for the car.

Rough around the edges, but you do give some good advice.

Other than the strange BOV downgrade, you're on the right path.
