What RPM shifts?

I ran a 13@106.55 last night but was very unhappy with my time. I felt I ran it pretty hard but I should be faster. Although it was my first time to the track in the car. What RPM should I be shifting at? I shifted last night at 7400. My buddy in his 9 shifts at 6500 and runs 12.2's all day. My mods are listed below.

60'...1.852
330...5.371
1/8...8.389
mph...83.51
1000...10.955
1/4...13.081
mph...106.55

Yes this was my first time. I thought I ran it pretty hard though. Felt like a better run than a 13 even though I spun a little. I know I have room for improvement and would liek to know how you other guys are doing it. Thanks

Looks like a relatively slow launch with mediocre to slow shifting is the biggest problem,

I am cammed. My buddy in his 9 shifts at 6500 and ran a 12.1 on 110 octane. They have more torque so tehy can do that. Since I can rev out higher I was wondering what other cammed evo's shift at.

Nope. Launched with 2 step with an act 6 puck pretty nasty. All I heard was chirp chirp chirp and I was gone. I shifted pretty quick too. It cut me out a little from 2nd to third because of a little break up.

hmmm is that a ported exhaust manifold or intake manifold....if it is exhaust your shifting too high..in my opinion.try it jsut a bit lower....it could jsut be that you need more practice out at the track to get a better feeling as to where you should be shifting....go run again and shift lower see what happens

shift at 7000-7200 and see if there is an improvement. I would think you will go a bit faster

Yea it is a ported exhaust manifold. I was going to shift a little lower but the track was packed. Most people say it doesn't make power up that high so maybe running it out made me run like that. Also a little extra practice should help out too. It is just wierd. I should be capable of a lower to mid 12 second pass.

evo 9s can shift at redline if they want since our powerband doesnt drop off like the 8s.

i think you should try to lower your shift point.
if you want to get crazy go get it dyno'd and check out your powerband, then you will know where its best to shift

It doesn't really matter where we shift. You just have to find the optimum shift point for you and your car. 6500 is too early for your buddy - he would have gone even faster if he shifted at 7000rpm, but you may have also gone faster if you shifted closer to 7000rpm. Cammed 05s do make more power up top, but it is still falling off at 7400. That may end up being a good shift point, but you need a dynograph to show you where you should shift and practice to find out what works best.

Do not say "nope" to Boltz about his comment. It doesn't matter if you think it was a good launch, because the 60' tells us otherwise. The fact you hit a 13.0 with that trap speed and 1.85 60' also tells us the shifting was poor, because even though the 60' is bad, it's not bad enough to keep you out of the 12s. Boltz is right in his assessment. I think you just need more practice to get the driving down pat, but then that brings us to the trap speed. 106.xx mph trap is awful for your mods...might want to have Scott check it out.

Lastly, this should be in the Drag Racing forum, obviously.
