rear sway bar for drag?

I was considering pulling my big adjustable rear sway bar and sticking the stocker back in since my car is getting a biggie turbo and wont see the road course anymore. Then I started thinking that maybe I should just leave it with no rear sway.. Any thoughts?

Hey Steve i believe you asked about this in the past no?

I'd leave it on there for now and then see how the car reacts on the track and go from there unless you just want to sell it for the cash and throw the stock piece on.

If it were me i'd at least leave the stocker on there at the very least unless you're trying to shed every bit of weight cuz it won't really help much in the launch dept for now

The sway bar is useless at the strip. If your not using the car on the street then u might as well remove it....

nice to see you posting man. Would you happen to know how much of a weight loss that is? Also, when you remove the sway bar, how is the suspension geometry affected?

Two very accurate rear Evo swaybar weights for you:

OEM Evo9 22mm rear swaybar with bushings and OEM brackets = 12.29 lb.
Progress 25mm rear swaybar with bushings and new brackets/hardware = 15.83 lb.

The suspension geometry is not affected in the slightest by removal of the swaybar. And Most-Wanted is correct, of course - swaybars have zero effect when the car is driving straight (unless the bushings are frozen, and the endlink lengths are dramatically uneven).

Should be noted that on a RWD car though...........removing the front swaybar can help to improve weight transfer off the line

Sway bars are EXTREMELY useful on a RWD car. Brian proved to us all that you can cut 1.3 60' with an Evo with no rear sway bar, so that is proof enough for here

So you can just remove it and nothing else will be affected?

I was under the impression this was an Evo-specific forum?

Okay; I will also note that filling your front tires with helium should also help improve weight transfer upon launch.

Just playin'/bored at work... more power to all of you out there blowing people's minds at the drag strip!

No disrespect to Brian but the guys in PR were cutting 1.3's without a rear swaybar long before anyone in the states. Removing the rear sway bar allows the car to squat harder on the rear aiding in a better launch.

Hey that sounds very similar but opposite to what happens if you remove the front

For Steve's Evo i still think it's waay overkill........but i get your point Ryu

Just saw this stupid post of yours. His point was that the cars work great at the strip WITHOUT the rear bar. But it's good to know I still get under your skin. And BTW the PR guys helped me dial in the car Just so you dont think anyone is trying to take anything away from them...
