i have the slowest evo ever made

im soo ****ing pissed at my car. it only boosts 16-17 psi. i have been to the track 3 times and can not break out of the 14's. the lowest i have ran it was 14.1@94.
i went to the track tonight with no spare and 100octane race gass and i got a 14.2@97. ive tried to launh it diferent ways but nothing works. i launch at 5500 it doesnt lag or anything but it still will not hit a 13.xx what the **** is wrong with my car. i had a celica before this car and i t was suposivley(sp) the 4th fastest n/4 celica in the country so it isnt my driving. can someone tell me whats up with my car. clutch? i prolly have the 180whp evo like shiv dynoed a while back. im so pissed.

I suggest getting an mbc and run 20.5 psi. If you're only getting 16-17 psi then there's your main problem. Unfortunately Evo stock boost vary from car to car. Take my car for example, I can only get 19psi on a <45 degree day. On the summertime I typically get only 17psi (and yes all my hoses are tight I checked). If you get an mbc you can run 20.5 psi tapering down to 19.5 at redline which is much better than stock 19psi. If you run 100 octane at the track you can prolly bump it up to 22+ psi w/o problems. I'm sure you'll be well into the 13's w/ an mbc.

1) there may be other factors invovled, e.g. elevation, temp, humidity, etc.

2) having the 4th fastest Celica doesn't prove that you're a good driver. You never know how much FASTER your Celica could have been had you hypothetically been a better driver...so don't let that faulty reasoning be confirmatory in any way...

3) i dont know how much your boost would have to do with it. Of course, if youre only running like 14psi, thats a different story, but 17psi? i dont think thats as big a deal...i only peak at 18 psi, and am still able to run mid to low 13's.

4) like the post above, the best bet is to take it to a dyno and check it out. But be mindful to only compare baselines with other EVO's on that same dyno. Also, if you find someone with a Dynamic Test Systems Dyno, it can figure out a close estimate of drivetrain loss (and not just apply a percentage constant) and you can also compare this loss with over EVO's that have been dynoed, to see if your drivetrain is a problem (if youre hp is dynoed to be normal.)

And i think its a bad idea to try and solve what may be an internal, factory problem with an aftermarket quick fix that may completely void your engine waranty.

Its just a bad call. Given that something is likely to be wrong with your engine / drivetrain, theres absolutely no reason why you would want to play around with the waranty.

Of course, he has already technically voided his warranty by racing it... but that's not the point.

One thing I must ask, though, is are you slipping the clutch out when you launch, or are you just dumping it at 5500?

14.1 sounds like the times I ran when I had bad launches. Hell, I ran a 15 once, that was bad launch and missed gear. I totally sucked it that time.

I think an mbc is a safe mod if you don't boost too high because the car runs very rich from the factory. Let's say he finds nothing wrong with the engine or his hoses which is entirely possible due to huge car to car variance for evo (this has been tested to be true), should he just keep the car stock and be happy? I know I wouldn't. And for the people who doubt his driving skill just look at his trap speed (94 mph) it's obvious he has one of the weaker evo's.

i slip it at 5500. ive been to the track 3 times and get nothin but constant 14.1-14.2's every time. at least my times are consistant but still. i mean when i launch it does it flawless with no lag or anything it doesnt hesitate either. but im just realy disapionted with m car. realy am questioning why i got an evo. i feel i got jipped. 15 psi max. low trap speeds.

I wouldn't be disheartened frankly. On a good track, With a better launch and with better atmosphere conditions you'll run a mid 13.
