My Stock Turbo Evo 9 Goes 10.90!!
Recently, Devin and I have been on a hunt for an 11.0 pass out of my daily driven, stock turbo 2006 Evo IX GSR. I've owned the car for 4 years, and being my first AWD turbo car, I feel in love instantly
For the past couple of years, we've been racing her at the track - drag or autox. So our goal was to mod the car to tackle both -
Quater Master 8-leg clutch, Boostin Performance built trans w/ Evo 8 4th gear, Buschur solid diff bushings
AMS Intercooler & piping with AMS small battery kit, Tial BOV
3 inch Turbo back Exhaust, Invidia O2 housing
E85, using FIC 1150's and a DW 300 pump
Kelford 272 Cams with Kelford valve springs
Stance GR +Pro Coilovers
Speed Density stock ECU tuned by my hubby, Devin
We drove out to Byron Dragway in Byron, IL during the first weekend in April. The weather was perfect for opening weekend too - sunny low 50's, so our fingers were crossed. We were running on my street tires, Dunlop Star Specs, which we knew wouldn't hook well, but had to try. They didn't Devin was cutting a 1.7 60ft. The best pass was an 11.5 @ 120mph.

After reviewing the logs at the track Devin noticed that the boost wasn't as high as it should have been. He found a couple of boost leaks, and got those fixed asap
After fixing those leaks, the next issue to tackle was traction. After doing a little MacGyver-ing on Devin's part, he figured out a way to use his 16" Rotas on 26" tall Hoosier QTP's on my car by using 20mm Ichiba wheel spacers. Here's a pic of the car - this is on stock brakes. Like our Brownbro's?
So we headed back to the track to get closer to our 11.0 goal, this time with our new traction adjustment. Besides the slicks, we also had Devin's toolbox, a large cooler, tent, 2 chairs, jack, spacers, helmet, jacket, driving shoes, the spare, sub (since I have the SSR package), and a bookbag of clothes. Who says these cars aren't roomy????
For our second time out, we hoped that we'd luck out and have the same nice turbo weather again. When we headed up north to Great Lakes Dragaway in Union Grove, WI on Memorial Day, the weather was in the upper 80's/low 90's. Not exactly ideal. Our best bet was to get a couple of passes in before the heat hit, so thats exactly what Devin did.

By 11:13am, Devin surpassed our goal. He ran a 10.90 at 125mph with a 1.51 60ft!!!

Now that we've reached our goal, the plan is to take the car back to the track during the week, hopefully within the next week or so depending on work and the weather. Of course its going to rain in Chicago Thursday thru the weekend of this week , so I may have to wait a bit to see if I can beat Devin's time.
I'm looking forward to taking back the wheel and getting back to autoxing with the car again soon, while Devin works on getting his Talon ready. But until then, I think launching the car on the new QM 8-leg clutch at the drag strip will keep me happy for now.

Very nice. I was gonna ask about your time slip from the stock turbo section. I wanted to see what 330 and 1/8 times you guys got. And there it is. 4.48 330 and a 6.9 1/8 mile. Exactly what I'm trying for so hard. I just don't have the groove yet this year. I need a good test day. You guys should let me know when you're going back to Wisconsin again. I can try and meet you Guys there.

Thanks everyone! We're both really excited with the results!! Now I just need to get my 11.0 pass soon
Awddyno, I'm hoping for those numbers myself too! We'll definitely keep you updated on when we hit Grove again.
