How much power do I need to run 9s?

Just wondering what the least whp I need to try for the 9s. I say the least because its getting harder to do with the stock longblock. It would have to be a perfect day, perfect traction. My best was 10.40 @ 133 with 527whp last year. That was with stock longblock, full interior, and FP black.

depends on a lot of factors. your driving style for one. which looks good from a 10.4 and also the weight of the car. maybe another 75hp on top of what you got. but dont ask me because i cant run 9s for my life. i just suck. you though. my guess is 75 more hp if you leave the car's weight as it is.

I think I'm at about 2950 with driver. I don't have the black anymore. I almost would hate to try since I like the car the way it is but the curiosity is killing me. My 10.40 run last year didn't feel perfect. That and I had full interior which is another 70lbs or so I could've dropped. I honestly thought I could've done a 10.2 but I was wrong.
75 more whp I know I couldn't get out of the black and stock longblock. The power drop off was so bad after 5800 or so.

grab your self the HTA86. the TRQ will be much less then the black was on how hard it hits. so maybe you can still use your stock block. and that will surely give you 75 more hp. crap if your 10.4 was a bad run then lets say you can rip a 10.2 on a good pass. then my guess would be 40hp if that.

see my issue is i added 100hp and am still running the same ET but 4 to 5 mph faster. strange. so this type of guess work is clearly not to be taken from me. haha.

Cessna's car went 9.99 with 450 whp on our dyno with a red. It was around 2600 lbs without driver though.

Run

Also my run yesterday, as it weighs now, was at 382-389whp. 10.71 and I consider that the best possible scenario. I cut a 1.50 60' which I've never done before.

Just to help inject accurate data, I was on an hta82 w/.63 hotside @3,000lbs w/o driver. VD shows just under 600whp. My run was a 1.49 60ft 9.96@139.8mph. When I was trapping 132mph I went a best of 10.30 w/ a 1.56 60ft. Based on your figures compared to my own, I'd say you need another 7mph minimum to be able to break into the 9 second range. That should equate to around 80whp peak. You could possibly achieve that with an hta82 w/.82 hotside over the FP Black. If you don't want to cut it close, I would opt for the HTA86 as previously suggested in this thread. Good luck.

What CWill posted is right my car put down 600-630HP (MD) with a race weight of 3030 w/ me in it and that's with decent driving.

That was before my latest round of mods on a 6262.

I do believe that Cessna's build was posted here somewhere that showed how much weight was taken out of it......it's def light.

I'd look into searching for the few threads from William's Red Evo that ran a 9sec pass on the stock motor and FP Black.....not sure what his car weighed though it did have some light-weight parts.

I believe William's car was said to be in the 2,8xxLB range without driver. He dyno'd 591whp peak at AWD.
