Went to the track tonight... ran 12.6's

I was up at great lakes dragaway last night and got about 10 runs in...my mods are mail in dynoflash, hks 272's, AMS intake, AMS turboback (no cat), AMS boost controller @ 21.5psi, Walbro 255, ARP headstuds, 93 octane and about 60 degrees outside. I know my 60ft should be closer to 1.7/1.8 but everytime I run it stays in the 1.9 range. Im not exactly sure what im doing wrong though. Im happy with how the car ran, just not with how I drive it. Ive been revving up to about 4,500/5,000rpm and kinda feathering the clutch a bit till it gets going then letting off and while im feathering the clutch I have the gas almost all the way to the floor. Time for more practice. Any helpful hints...?

my best:
r/t .376
60' 1.914
330 5.323
1/8 8.145@85.31
1000 10.590
1/4 12.629@113.56

2nd
r/t .122
60' 1.978
330 5.356
1/8 8.159@86.93
1000 10.594
1/4 12.629@110.93

3rd
r/t .624
60' 1.940
330 5.358
1/8 8.174@88.84
1000 10.627
1/4 12.669@111.16

it just gets worse from there...

stock clutch?

LIFER Aug 23, 2005 10:02 PM

Try 5,500 rpms. You may be feathering it to much, regardless good times for your mods.

TomsEVO Aug 23, 2005 10:30 PM

yep, still on the stock clutch.

Very impressive time and great trap for pump gas, try a 5,500RPM launch.

It's not the times that are impressive, it's the mph. 113+ with standard bolt-ons and cams on 93oct and no meth? That's the really impressive part. That means he's capable of 11.9 at 115 if he drives it right. I guess it goes to show how much temp makes a difference. People down here are having trouble hitting 110 with cams on pump gas, and he's up there hitting 113 on poor launches. Ah, I can't wait for 60 degree weather again...

Anyway, you just need to launch at a higher rpm and get it figured out. Then, shift harder, and you'll be knocking on the doors of 11. If I could hit 113mph, holy crap...

Hell yeah that 113 trap is sweet on pump.

Launch around 6500, with those mods, your capable of running much quicker.

RazoEvo Aug 24, 2005 08:42 PM

on a stock clutch 4.5k is enough, if you have a act or something that grabs better you can launch at 6500. Just play with different clutch techniques, youll find one that will fit you, you can cut 1.7s with dropping it,slipping it, feather what ever techniques there is, you just have to find what is most consistent to YOU. Everyone drives different, theres no "best" way to launch in my opinion.s

You ever get the car dyno'd?

Scoot Aug 24, 2005 10:12 PM

I like to launch at about 5800, sucker just takes off. Quick feather, smash the gas, no burning clutch smell, no bogging(stock clutch). Practice, practice, practice. Nice trap by the way.

Evoisdream Aug 25, 2005 01:35 AM

im launching mine at 6200 with the act with the stocker i was doing about 5500 and was pulling low 1.8 high 1.7 did over 40 1/4 mile runs with the stocker like that

Keely Aug 25, 2005 04:59 AM

I have a stock clutch and the car was launched at different points. Shifting off the 5,000 limiter was around a mid to high 1.8 60ft from what I remember and when the car was launched higher (around 6-6500), the 60ft was a 1.74? Yes, everyone does drive differently but you want to get out of the hole as quickly as you can.

Ive never had the car dyno'd but I was surprised by the 113mph trap, I guess the cool 58 degrees helped out a bit. I dont want to replace the clutch anytime soon so I dont know how many more times Ill be at the track this year but hopefully I can find a technique that works for me and I can get my 60ft down to maybe hit an 11.xx.

I ran my 12.34 @ 108.89 at GLD with a 1.689 60' but it was much warmer out. The cold may be hurting you 60'. Are you breaking loose at all on the launch? If not you might want to slip the clutch a little faster or move the RPM's up a bit or both until you get just a tiny bit of wheel spin. Also, what tire pressure are you at? Try 25psi up front and about 28psi in back. You shouldn't lose much mph and it will definitely help your 60's. Wish I had your mph on pump :)
