Poor E/T's
 

Im not sure what caused such poor E/T's this friday. It was definatly a combonation of the track, weather, and my poor launching. Heres what my average timeslip looked like. BTW it was 85 with 100% humidity in south florida at moroso motorsports park last friday, and everyones E/T's were about .3 seconds slower than they were making when it was cold out. My car at the time was running a flash, downpipe, and catback. I still had the stock cat in place because my resonator was on backorder.

I think the overall E/T for 1/4 suffered about .3 from the weather, and .5 from the poor launches i was making. Someone told me i should be cutting a 1.6-1.5 second 60' in an AWD car. This was my first track experence. Someone also told me the the track at moroso is hard to AWD launch at because of how slick the launch area is. I launch much better on clean asphult than the rubber coated moroso. Any input is welcome, thanks for your time.

Well your 60' was hurting you for sure. A 1.5 or 1.6 in an '03 would be pretty tough to pull off because of the open front diff., a 1.7 would have brought the ET down to a 13.4-13.5 or so though. So if people were running .3 off then that would have put you at a 13.1-13.2 which for your mods and that year Evo isnt all that bad.

Heat+Humidity and Evos do not mix well. That would have hurt you.

Your mods are light, so you should be thinking around 13.1 @ 104ish range.

Your 60s where off by .3, rule of thumb each .1 in the 60 is .2 in the quarter.

You should have been shifting fast at 7000-7100, and through the traps in 4th gear.

Yeah. So really if i shaved .3 off of my 60' time it would count for .6 in my overall e/t. That would put me right where i wanted to be, minus the crappy weather. I was bogging down a bit on the track, launching at 5200 on the stock clutch with two step control. If i brought the two step up to like 6k would i not bog down as bad(but go through my stock clutch much faster) Oh btw im on stock clutch with 6 two step launches and 48000 miles on the car. Thanks for the input all.

*edit* The front diff in the '03 is not a limited slip huh? Is it possible or practical to get a new diff?

I launch at 5k limiter cutting 1.61-65s. But I have a ACT clutch and no restrictor pill in the clutch line.

Eh, I have 5015x on my car as of this morning, and about 20 drag days -- so about 70-90 runs.

Yes, you can upgrade to a LSD. Costs -- well I remember seeing them at $1400 range, but I dont know for sure.

i just got back from the track and all my trap speeds were in the 95-96 mph range whats up with that.my best time was a 14.2 with a 2.1 60 footer i need to work on my launch some more
i see alot of evos trapiing in the 100's maybe it was just the heat and humidity. it was 106 degrees and humidity was up there aswell.not to mention the 1 hr drive to the track.

also what rpm do you guys shift at i was shifting at 7500-7600 somehow i think that hurt my time more.are you guys shifting at 7000-7100 to achieve your times.

Well yes, 7500rpm shifting is ridiculous. Why would you shift so high knowing we shift at 7000-7100? That doesn't make any sense, because your power peaks closer to 6500 then just falls off significantly. Heat and humidity don't help, but no IX should ever trap 95-96mph.

Try for at least a decent 60' (2.1 is atrocious), then shift at 7000rpm. You'll probably get over 100mph traps and gain a second on your ET.

Also, 106 degree weather and 91 oct dont mix well. You might wanna throw in a gallon or two of 100oct.

i wanna try and break a decent 13 on 91 before i move up in octane ratings.

war i took your advice from another thread about launching and shifting at 7000 today and i can honestly say it makes a big difference we have a 1/4 mile strip marked out on a street and when i passed the finish i was happy to see the speedometer in the 100 mph range.
