3 runs and low 13's ?

My first time at a track with my 04 rs i ran a HORRIBLE 14.4! at around 93 mph. this was with most of the bolt-ons. pretty much a stg 1 with a couple more goodies. Well yesterday i went to the track and came home pretty happy.

Rt. 66 dragway in joliet, ILL.
temp: around 83
time: 1:30pm
new mods: AMS base flash w/ 2step at 5500.

I only got 3 runs in.

60' - 2.0 / 2.0 / 1.9
1320- 13.3 / 13.2 / 13.4
mph - 103 / 105 / 104

soo close to a 12.9 but yet so far away. this is also on stock clutch and bald a*s all seasons. thnx for looking

there is high 12's in your car easy. traction sounds like your issue.

Boltz. Sep 18, 2006 02:10 PM

The bald tires aren't holding you back, less grip will almost always help with our cars near your power level.

IIRC you were the fastest Evo there besides the one guy who I think had a turbo kit and ran a paltry high 12 @ 112 (dan also doesn't count), but with all of your mods you should be trapping higher, especially in an RS.

Ever done a boost leak test?

I was shocked to see what must have been at least 5 or so modded evo's including 05's and MR's that were running 13.5-14.5 @ 100 give or take a mph or a few tenths

Not bad overall, Try to work on a quicker launch (preloading works well for me) and your shifts could definitely improve. (I remember watching your runs)

speedfreak0920 Sep 18, 2006 04:44 PM

My shifting could definately improve. I dog it in every gear. ( i mis-shifted my b18 civic twice and almost toasted my valves and that scared this s*it out of me!) Did you notice how quiet my car was compared to everything else?! my lil brother said he didn't even hear my 2step. I haven't don't a boost leak test. Should I ? I was holding about 20psi all the way.maybe 19.75 or so. That 06 MR ran a few 13.5's. Aren't those 12 sec cars stock? and that one atleast had an exhaust. What is preloading? pulling the e-brake and gasing til the car jerks forward a bit? I have cams i could get installed next week but more power on a stock clutch doesn't sound like a good idea to me. thnx for your guys' input and help. appreciate it

You should definatly do a boost leak test. There are alot of factory weak evos. Thats cause there is a leak somewhere. I bet your leaking at the throtlebody.

speedytl Sep 18, 2006 07:28 PM

i didn't even hear that u had a 2 step and my first time seeing a rs at the track good runs

Warrtalon Sep 18, 2006 08:46 PM

That's about right for a stock RS, but for those mods, it's quite weak. The 60's are terrible, but the shifting isn't bad. The first guy who responded was wrong when he said you have 12s easy with the right driving. With great driving, you have a 12.8-12.9, but with 103-105mph traps, it's not a given. Also, 13.2 is not close to 12.9 at all. 13.01 is close to 12.9, but 13.2 is light years away in terms of drag racing. However, your car and your mods are good for low 12s if you get things running well.

Btw, one of the biggest mistakes I see on EvoM is when one person says "have you done a boost leak test?" then the thread originator says, "I think it's fine, because I held 20psi all the way." Well, that's the problem...you won't see a boost leak on your boost gauge. The gauge will still read the same, but the turbo will be working overtime to overcome the leak and maintain your preset boost levels...

lol i went 13.201 in a stock 03 with suspenison mods.. a good driver went 12.8's in my car on 17's

I have the fastest 03 on record im pretty sure.. or my track is just broken..

i trap like 103 104 w/a good launch

speedfreak0920 Sep 19, 2006 07:41 AM

i think i will do a boost leak asap. i know my 60' were pretty bad. I'm still taking off at the green. My last run was a little better but i didn't shift right. I have to get used to the tree in my evo. Going before the last yellow changes is where it's at. With a better 60' i think i will be able to hit a 12 for sure. I hope i have a boost leak! Ive decided to get my cams installed next week. time for one more track session. What is everyone shifting at ? thnx speedytl for the props. and thnx again for everyone's help

Do you have an A/F gauge? Another easy way to spot a boost leak is a rich condition.

Warrtalon Sep 19, 2006 03:43 PM

No, an A/F gauge won't help with that, especially if it's not attached to a wideband o2. A/F gauges alone are useless. He also could be tuned with the boost leak to the point of not showing richness but yet still overworking the turbo.

Speedfreak, the tree has nothing to do with your 60's - that only affects the reaction time (R/T), which has no bearing on the 60'. You can sit at the light for 10 seconds if you want and not affect your time, so don't think that's affecting you. The only thing affecting your launch is you.

MalibuJack went 12.9 in his stock 03, but I don't think the MPH was higher than 104. Are you saying someone went 12.8 in your car in completely stock form? I would think the timers were messed up if you were only trapping 103/104 and saw a 12.8...

Ok I should have rephrased it, do you have a wideband o2 sensor attached to an A/F gauge. I understand that an A/F gauge is useless....

But yes he could have been tuned with the boost leak.
