Shift Point discussion, 7K or higher for MR's
I went to the dragstrip last night with my Evo and logged all of my runs. One of the things I wanted to try to discover was what effect using different shift points had on my car. I was able to create an interesting visual from the log.
These HP / TQ figures are derived from airflow/rpm instead of time/distance/work calculations. 2byte rpm values 1st 7558 2nd 7878 3rd 7886 4th 7843 Conventional Evo wisdom, stock turbo doesnt make usable torque above 7K. Airflow may say otherwise. Discuss. http://www.rgvimports.com/pics/MrEvoIX/shiftpoints.jpg |
Do it again but shift at 7k. Compare the two graphs. Right? I can't wait to see the results

The next time I go to the track I'll make sure to get it both ways and I'll update the thread and PM you. Note not all cars have a powerband like mine so this may not change conventional wisdom. I wasnt looking for an argument with Warrtalon in your thread, I'm looking for my ideal shift points too:).

bump for results haha

I get my fastest splits shifting at about 7000. stock turbo

You look at your dyno chart and go from there:)

I'm not going to simply say 7K and that's it. I'm more practical by weighing all of the necessary and required numbers to make the best decision. If you have a dyno chart of your tune available, this website should give you a hand.
