Hoosier R6 or Nitto 555R's

I need a set of 245/45-17's drag tires and was hoping to get some input on these two tires. I know the R6's are road racing tires but no one makes a 245/45-17 drag radial tire.

Road race tires are WAY too hard for drag racing.

Either get the BFG 225/45/17 g-force drag radials or the Mickey Thompson 26/7/17 slicks.

The Nitto's are good for consistent low 1.6 60ft's on a decent track and tread wear is fairly decent for daily driving. I get about 12k miles out of a set on my car.

There is gonna be a new drag tire for us Evo's coming pretty soon in a 245/45/17 I can't comment to much on them because I'm not gonna be the one testing but if I were you just hold out for a couple more weeks, you won't be dissappointed! I'm sure once testing is done he will make an announcement on here. : )

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/dr...es-slicks.html

I thought you were going to try out a set in the 225 size???

Mike only got 1 set instead of 2 so we'll see how they do if he's able to run at CMI this Saturday

Are you talking about the hoosiers posted on another thread? From what i understand they will be tested on an Audi S4 which is similar platform with the EVOs (4 door, 4wd sedan)...

http://www.centralvalleyspeed.com/ph..._rear_tire.jpg

Why dont they make them with a higher profile like a 50 or maybe even 55? What we want is by deflating the tire to allow the tire to twist thus absorbing some of the initial launch shock. They look pretty similar to the BFGs which many people have said to experience wheel hop...

Can't wait for the results thought... I also read that hoosiers have much softer sidewall so probably they will twist more that other tires....

nittos 555's were hard tires, when used on my honda I would have too smoke the **** out of them for them to stick!

kouzman May 26, 2009 07:56 PM

well for the Nittos i have heard quite a few problems especially on awd cars... The mustang guys and corvette guys like them but i am not sure how successful they are with the EVOs...

MAybe if Hoosier makes the 245/45-17 we will have another solution for us who dont really want to get smaller brakes to fit 15 inch wheels...

The_ghost22 May 26, 2009 08:18 PM

Kouz is right, Since AWD cars don't really burn it up, the nittos really are not a good choice!

The_ghost22 May 26, 2009 08:18 PM

I just thought about it, what about M and H, do they make anything for AWD!

Yes this is the car that will be testing out the tires hopfully have some results this Saturday i'm pretty sure they will exceed any expectations looks like a perfect solution for us that wants to stay with the stock brakes and wheels

Any updates on the testing?

How close do you think we are for the 245/45-17 size to go in production?

Wiznaz May 30, 2009 05:17 PM

I have a set of 245/45/17 Hoosier R6s and they are not even close to being a drag tire.

PATRICK B. May 30, 2009 06:09 PM

Update:

Mike with the blue audi was unable to race today so no testing was done that i know of.

He may decide to post in here but i'm sure he's busy fixing the problem he recently discovered.

I too am very interested in a 245/45 17 size.....
