FP Red setup can't break 11.80's!

I'm running 33psi on 114 leaded fuel on my FP Red... mods are below

3" TBE
3" o2 housing
Samco/HKS intake
Crushed and gus modded 9 bov
22x12x3.5" FMIC
Nisei LICP
Evo 9 w/ Evo 8 3rd and 4th
Exedy Twin Disc w/ss line
Front engine mount
ID 1000cc injectors
Walbro pump
1 stg. colder denso plugs
FP red w/ HP actuator
245/45/17 RE-01R's @ 20psi

FULL weight 3440 w/me in it and full tank

I went to the track this last Friday and first pass ran an 11.9@115.95mph going through the traps on the limiter set @ 7700RPM. I got a 1.72 60' which isn't great, but it's not terrible. I thought that the clutch wasslipping... so I did a 2nd pass without a pre-launch practice/burnout.

2nd pass netted an 11.8@120mph going through the traps on the SAME limiter set @ 7700. 1.75 60' this time.

This was my last pass, so I went home and did my gear calcs to see what MPH I should be at with a 7700RPM, 245/45/17 tire, and Evo 8 4th gear. 126.1 MPH!!!!

Is it possible that my twin is slipping that bad? HD Exedy Twin with less than 3k miles.

I'm a bit pissed that I'm cursed to an 11.80 pass when I'm making more than enough power to run faster.

What do you guys think? :crap:

Are your tires bald? Keep in mind the more worn the tire is the less the mph... Also why only 7700rpms? You can get a bit more than that, i just dont suggest reving super high everyday all day... Besides that mph is a bit low.. Whats your 1/8th mph?

Cheers!

Are you having shifting issues at all?

PATRICK B. Sep 3, 2009 10:40 AM

Man Ernie something just ain't adding up quite right!

MPH is all over.........hope you get it sorted out and sure hope you don't have to yank that trans off again :crap:

R/TErnie Sep 3, 2009 11:04 AM

tires have less than 1k on them.

I'm building 11psi on the line and leaving @ 6750

Shifting is MUCH better than the last time I went to the track (11.9@118mph w/leaking bov) prior to rebuilding my gear box so that I could actually shift into 2nd gear. Shifting was very quick... I just noticed that the car didn't respond to the power coming back in hard like it normally does from running on the street.

1/8MPH is ~ 93

I would've raised the rev limiter, but I wanted to diagnose the slip issue first. It was a busy night at the track and I only got two passes in... not to mention that @ 7700 I should've been at 126mph...which I would've been quite happy with.

Usually when I do roll ons for logging on the street I'll be able to slap the diff off the underside of the car going into 2nd and 3rd.

The car didn't jump at all when I went into 2nd and the RPM's just sounded lazy. My 4th gear logs showed the RPM stall three times during the pull down the track. 4th gear logs also showed 35+psi, 11.6 AFR's, and 78% IDC's on 1000cc injectors... the car is making power.

I'm 99% sure it's the twin taking the D' from being overheated/slipped/glazed from that first pass. I already ordered the triple plate... I'm just looking to hear some input.

Might just be the clutch then... Did you log the runs? The car doesnt look like its knocking 93 to 120 is a healthy pass. Just underpowered... For reference i'd expect the car to be at about 96-97 and 124-125 as is with average driving so youre short maybe 30-40whp.

Try the new clutch and well see what happens... I don't see how its not handling the power though, the twin should be plenty for your setup.

Cheers!

Sounds like something is definately wrong. I'm sure you're making more power than me and I managed the time in my sig. IX 4th gear sux.

To give you an idea, 93mph in the 1/8th mile with a ~1.6 60' should net a 11.2/11.3 1/4mile time so long as your backhalf is kept consistent.

Don't know what it dyno'd (TQ wise) if it was tuned that way but could it be the added TQ from the RED that's making the clutch pissed

That is not true I dont think. I trapped 92.5 in the 1/8th and with a 1.6 I ran 11.67 at just about 117

gsr0801 Sep 3, 2009 11:36 AM

This sounds alot like traction problems or shifting..

:crap:

I have Exedy twin HD and most of the time I do 3 passes back to back with burn out and it never slips on me( has 30K miles now 400tq+)

Maybe try to lower your tire pressure. Just to give you idea...I set mine 16psi Rear 14psi Front and it always give me the best result(1.60-1.64 60 ft) I have General Tires UHP.
My 2 step is set @ 7K t 25-27psi boos(pump gas w anti-lag)

Tom Sawyer Sep 3, 2009 11:53 AM

Might check the tune, I think there might just be too much Urness in it at WOT. Perhaps switching to some Huge might solve the problem? :D

Sad to say but that about exactly what the 3-4 Evos with Reds run down here where i live. Thats why i havent changed yet.

Also 93 in the 1/8th doesnt come anywhere near 11.2-11.3 in the 1/4.
