Shouldn't I be faster???
Hey guys,
I'll try to make this as short as I can. I've been through quite a journey with my car since last Ocotober when I first got it. I knew it had a few issues to work out and of course a few more have popped up along the way but I got a great deal on it and since my first track day I've made some drastic improvements. Yesterday was my third time at the track this year I only have about 10 runs in under my belt so I'm definitely still learning how to drive but here are the numbers from my best run of the day. 60'- 1.808 330- 5.543 1/8- 8.661 MPH- 81.27 1000- 11.332 1/4- 13.552 MPH- 103.73 I know I've seen a lot of guys going faster than this on even stock set-ups, so I'm thinking I should be somewhere in the mid to low 12s with mine (mods are in my sig). I'm just wondering if anyone has any thoughts as to why I'm not running any faster. Some things worth noting that could be playing a factor: 1.) The car is full weight plus some- I'm about 240 myself plus my trunk is full of stuff such as my toolbox, spare tire/jack, 12"sub in a box, amp, and about 3/4 tank of gas. I was there by myself yesterday so I couldn't really unload any of this. 2.) Tune- As far as I can tell the tune is decent. I'm hitting about 26psi around 4K and only tapering to 23-24psi @ 7K. Timing is 5*-6* around 5K, ramping up to 11-12 at 7K. Fuel is 12.1-12.4 during spool-up, 11.5@ 5K and 11@ 7K. 3.) Faster shifting- I was shifting around 7000-7200 rpm but I tried not to go too hard/fast cuz I just broke in a new clutch. 4.) Stock 8 wheels on Ecsta ASX street tires- PSI was probably around 30. I left it the same as when I drive on the street. Those are some of my thoughts. What do you guys think? |
better 60' will help your time, definately need to be slamming the gears.
you should be able cut atleast a 1.7 60'. It took me it little bit to get to that and then you have to shift as fast as possible. slow shifting will make a huge difference in speed. you should be able to go mid to low 12's. just takes practice. I have similar mods and run 12.3-12.5 consistantly. took me a good 30-40 runs to get the hang of it and become consistant in that time. |

Your only trapping 103mph good for 13.0's maybe high 12's. You need at least 110mph for your low 12's.
Something is wrong with your tune on the top end I think it might be pulling timing. Your running a good amount of boost too. In 2003 when I had my evo 8 with RMR intake, 3inch TBE, MBC and SAFC tune. Stock Clutch, Stock 9.8T 1/4 Mile: 13.043 @ 107.05mph 1/8 Mile: 8.421 @ 81.93mph 60': 1.965 |
Also, are you staying in 4th gear through the lights? You need to stay in 4th and don't shift into 5th gear.

Other guy in the forum ran this:
2003 Evo, stock tune, stock boost. TBE, test pipe, 3.5 FMIC, LICP, Intake. RT: .543 60: 1.801 330: 5.357 1/8: 8.287 MPH: 83.48 1000: 10.820 1/4: 12.947 MPH: 106.15 |
Are you launching the car and if so, what did you set the 2 step at? I think that with the added weight and slow shifting is causing the slow times. you should be much faster.
|
Do a compression test on the car. If that checks out, do a boost leak test on it. Then go get it retuned.
My car with me (200lb) full weight. 12.4@110 Mods Stock clutch Hallman MBC Exhaust ****ty air filter Peteyturbo tuned Good luck |
Unload the trunk next time and shift fast. You should not be lifting between 1st to 2nd gear if you use the the stationary rev-limiter. :)

Thanks for all of the responses. Like I said before, I just want to get some confirmation that it's not something other than my driving and the weight. Guess I'm just wondering if it's possible for me to be a full second or more slower due to those two things. |
yea somethings wrong.. your about 70-90 whp short of where you should be.
i went 12.98 @103 100% stock, with a few bolt-ons at 24psi i went 11.92@115 |
Don't feel bad I could on muster up a 12.1 at 117. With a 1.7. 60ft. But I only have 10 pass also. And my track goes uphill and into the wind fml
|
Yes, you can easily lose a second or more. Its all about taht 60 ft, the rest is easy as long as you dont miss a gear. Good luck bro!
|
I havent even broke into the 11's yet so I know the feeling. I couldnt get below a 2.0 60ft. Trapping 122mph but best et was 12.05 :(
|
13.5 that worse than stock. My slowest was 13.3 when I was stock.
