Anyway when it kicks I feel like im losing speed in the split second it does that between shift...Im I driving it wrong? Am I losing speed? (Never had this problem before. My buddy told me ats the AWD, Can I prevent this if it is?)

If its when your down shifting? You have to give the gas a little tap to make a smother down shift. Shifting hard from 1st to 2nd and you get a jerk means that your droping the clutch to fast.
The shifting thump is only something I've noticed with 2005 and 2006 cars. The only thing in the driveline they changed is the ACD tcase and the rear dogbone mount on the rear of the trans. Everything in the rear of the car including mounts, bolts, diff, etc are unchanged. It has to be something with the rear engine roll-stop dogbone or ACD.
They switched to ACD in all cars starting with production date Aug. 2004, which should be 2005 model year cars. They changed the rear mount in June 2004.
Now we just need someone with a 2004 that has the production date inside their door on or after June 2004 to tell us if their car thumps under shifts to tell for sure which is the culprate.

Im having the exact same problem. I have a IX I just bought a week ago. Feels like the person that had it before me put a serious clutch in it. When I dump the clutch between gears it bucks horribly. But what they're saying is rite. If you let the clutch out slower or stab the throttle while letting it out it smooths it out. I still feel like it shouldnt do that tho. Im still looking for an answer on this myself.

1. practice
2. practice
3. see where I am going?
Mine smooths out if I shift it aggressively, if I shift it babycakes it gets unhappy. You probably just need to learn to shift it how it likes it. Oh, and don't snick it like a Honda, pause for a split second at neutral before going into the next gear.
If you still have questions, find a local with an Evo and have him drive it to see if it is out of the normal. Motor mounts are supposed to make a big difference too
what color is your mr? when i bought this IX i didnt know they made white MR's til the deed was done. what do you mean by snick? good call on the coming from hondas thing tho. Also, by stopping in neutral, that makes for a rather lengthy shift doesnt it?
