What's needed for tuning perfection on 2/18?
OK. You suggested we post our mod setup prior to a visit by you so here goes.
I have an 04 RS with the Buschur Racing Stage III + alky. It currently has: BR deluxe FMIC BR upper & lower IC pipes 1g BOV - uncrushed & recirculating BR MAF pipe (early model) BR cone filter HKS cams - 272/272 ARP head studs HKS DLI 2 ignition Magnecor wires BR front motor mount Walbro pump BR mini battery SMC alcohol injection- running 100% methanol BR MBC @ 25psi BR 3" SS turbo back w/ test pipe & race muffler Dynoflash mail-in (the kind that ain't done no more!) Waiting on the floor to be installed: BR EVO 9 20G w/ ported & coated 10.5 hotside Upgraded actuator coated SS O2 housing ported & coated exhaust manifold (en route) 780 injectors This is all Buschur Racing's stuff. I have not mixed and matched anything. There was no independent thinking on my part. That's why the car is running right now. I would like to continue with this promising trend of keeping the car running. It is a relatively new experience to me and I find I enjoy it more than when the car is not running. Fire when ready. |
Your set up looks great
is this car being tuned on the dyno that day ? Should be fun. the only part I could change without any doubt is the BOV - the Forge RS with one g adapter plate would make a nice improvement both in driveability and in boost holding Pre dyno - do a pressurized boost leak test - the lower fmic pipe flange leaks a lot on those cars - make sure it can hold 25 psi without any leaks also a compression test is a good idea Otherwise you have great parts |
Alrighty then. I'll have Nick at Buschur throw a Forge BOV w 1g adapter plate in the box w my ex mani when he sends it my way.
I had wanted to get some dyno numbers as well on the 18th but the way we're scheduled you've got my road tune after the dyno runs. I've got the 4:00 to 6:00 road tune. I may go to Show Zone on Sat. the 11th just to get some pre-20G dyno numbers to toss around. At any rate, the car will arrive on the 18th compression tested, boost leak free, fresh NGK BPR7ES's gapped at 28, fresh Mobil One 10w-30 w a Mitsu filter and generally ready to be massaged into an insanely exhilarating ravenous beast ready to lay waste to all far and near....but wait......I digress. |
Talked to Nick this morning. Forge BOV w/ 1g adapter plate is on the way.

Also when you gap them, do not use the cheap round gapper as a measurement tool. Use feeler guage shims to measure the gap, the cheap gaping tools are waaaaay off - up to 0.01". If you have exhaust leaks Al's equipment will be off too. Just in case you didn't know |
I got the BPR7ES's because that's what the fellas at Buschur said I should use with the setup I'll be running. I said: "Won't I need a step colder plug?" and they said:"No. You won't need a step colder plug. You will need BPR7ES's." So that's what I got.
I asked about the gap as well and they said .028 to .030. The HKS DLI II wouldn't dare let any sparks blow out! We'll see what happens soon enough. |
Made an appointment at Show Zone for Friday 2/11 at 12 pm to get some dyno numbers w the current setup. We'll see what the EVO9 20G and associated mods do on the 18th after Al finishes with it.
|
It'll be good to see a before and after with the things you're planning to add.

Just got back from a run on Show Zone's Mustang Dyno. Turned out better than I expected.

He stopped doing mail-ins for alcohol injection some time last year after I got mine.

O! it was a mailin for alky ... nice.. i didnt know he ever did that

I finished installing my mods yesterday in anticipation of next weekends tuning session.
AEM intake 3" Turboback exhaust w/ test pipe Ebay stainless O2 housing Buschur racing LICP 1g bov w/ lower port welded up (holds boost really well, but with surge) Greddy Profec B Walbro 255lph My car is an 05 GSR with 6500 miles on it. I did a pressure test yesterday and realized the buschur pipe was leaking very bad. That problem is now solved. I have a couple of questions. 1)What plugs should I purchase this week? BPR7ES or BPR8ES 2)What fuel does Al recommend running, 93 octane of course but Amoco, Shell, Exxon, ETC.... 3)What should my target boost pressure be on 93 octane? 4)What kind of power should I be expecting? Thanks for any input and I'll see you guys on Saturday. |
RC05EVO,
Congrats on the mods installation. 1)The boys at Buschur told me to use BPR7ES's gapped .028-.030. But when I pulled out my stock plugs for the 1st time on Friday they looked as good as new. I've been running my car w all kinda mods for over a year and 19,000 miles so I don't know if you even need to worry about plugs at the moment. "If it ain't broke don't fix it" as they say. 2)Sunoco? I think the general consensus is to find a good local station you're happy with and stick with them. Of course that's kinda hard to do when you travel. 3)I ran 21 lbs boost prior to my alky installation. 4)I ain't got no idear. On the Mustang dyno people have been known to shed a tear or two. As for me after a great pre-20G-9 dyno run yesterday I proceed to develop a nasty boost leak somewhere or another. It's all good, I'm getting ready to install all the new goodies anyway and I just ordered all new j-clamps to replace the current hose clamps holding my IC plumbing together. I just waiting impatiently for my ported and jetcoated exhaust mani to arrive from Buschur. No doubt it will arrive late on Friday to help keep the suspense up. Look forward to seeing you on Saturday. Coheterojo |
Thanks for the reply. I had to put 2 t-bolt clamps on the inlet of the buschur LICP. I think it may be the slight bend in it that keeps it from sealing properly. I'd check that one closely. The turbo outlet pipe sealed good but it was the larger side of the reducer coupling buschur sends that was giving me trouble. I may pick up some plugs but wait till I get to the dyno to see if I need them. I'll be bringing lots of tools just in case I need them, so if I need to change the plugs it won't be a big deal. I've seen the mustang dyno #'s look low. As long as it feels much stronger I'll be happy. Even if they are low, the before and after #'s will show what kind of power Al was able to generate.
