recently Dyno'd a Mail-in Flash got a ??

I recently dyno'd (dynojet) My Dynoflash Mail-in 03 Evo

My Mods are:
Injen Intake / Upper intercooler piping
Walbro 255 Fuel Pump
HKS 272 i/e
HKS Camgears (0,0)
Invidia Downpipe
Invidia Cat-back
De-cated
Hallman Boost Controller @ 21psi (normally @ 20psi but for the dyno i hit 21psi)
91 Oct

That's what i got Flashed since then I added:
Megan Racing Header
and during the Dyno Run i was actually running mostly 93 oct
1st pic is whp and tq
2nd pic is whp with AF
http://www.fumanchuu.com/vincent/Pic...Dyno-hp&tq.jpg
http://www.fumanchuu.com/vincent/Pic...Dyno-hp&af.jpg

Dont get me wrong i'm LOVE the power band and i'm really happy with the safe AF ... but i'm just confused why my TQ is so low... When looking at pervious Al's Case Study guys *with my very similar mods* are hitting much more tq (25-35+). These are the casesstudys i found:
https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...ght=Case+Study
he has injectors which i dont... but his numbers are 330hp and 338 tq...
https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/at...chmentid=71615
this guy has 264/272 but has 319hp and 324tq

Now i totally realized and knew that was goin to hit lower numbers bc it's a mail-in tune... the hp numbers are roughly 10 less which i figured was pretty normal... but losing 25-35 tq.. I guess i'm just hoping Al (or anyone) would be able to question why?

The tune looks perfect

What kind of boost gauge do you have ?

Rcebowl Apr 4, 2006 09:57 PM

A VDO boost gauage

i mean i love the car .. feel and runs GREAT!!!... i'm just wondering why the lower tq numbers... i mean it just be because it's a mail-in... but i wanted to make sure it wasnt anything esle

Warrtalon Apr 4, 2006 10:08 PM

People always jump to the conclusion that the HP peak or the TQ peak is caused by the tune. However, it most often has to do with how the car is put together and how much boost is being run, which includes the MBC setting, the BOV quality, and the extent to which the boost system is sealed. It may be that he gave you conservative timing at peak boost because of the 91pisstane or that you are running lower boost than you think. The tq spike usually comes from higher boost, so lower peak torque is usually lower peak boost. However, lower peak torque can come from very weak timing at peak boost. This is what happens to SAFC users (like me in the past) running 21psi on pump gas but with no injectors to allow the SAFC to remove fuel and thus advance timing.

It would have been nice if they also had a MAP sensor to see what your true boost was. I have a dynograph where I had 320whp/289wtq, but my tune was perfect. The problem was I was only really spiking to 19psi peak at 3800rpm and then holding 19-20psi to redline. My peak tq wasn't high, but my area under the curve was awesome and then the peak WHP was nice. I got my boost turned up to where it should be and gained all that torque back and then some...

well a conservatice timing at peak boost... wouldnt cause tq to drop as much as it would hp right? ... bc that would be more of a top end thing *unless i'm not understanding it which could be the case*

according to my vdo boost gauge... i hit 20 psi at 3800ish and then i start dropping until right when i shift 7600rpm it's at roughly 17psi ..

do u think a new bov and some tbolt could fix my issue? ... or is just i need a custom tune? or all the above?

The fact that your TQ peak is low seems to indicate to me a low boost level

At my shop we use either a known to be accurate or a map sensor

It amuses me how many people trust their boost gauge as if it were a labratory grade instrument - but I see that many boost gauges are off

Peak TQ has a direct relationship to boost level

Boost falling to 17 psi is also not good and many indicate a boost leak

Warrtalon Apr 4, 2006 10:49 PM

Rcebowl, before spending any money, you should just do a pressure test on your boost system. This will identify any leaks (almost every Evo has them), then you'll be able to tighten up your system. 20psi on my boost gauge is only 18psi on Al's MAP sensor, so you may want to verify your boost levels.

Kinda odd, 20psi by 3800? I get 21psi at 3100 and drop to 19.5 at 7200

Rcebowl Apr 5, 2006 12:42 AM

ehh i have the 42 guage cluster.. which is cool and all but it's hard to actually tell when i hit boost.. ill drive it around tomororw and repost

DynoFlash Apr 5, 2006 07:04 AM

Your dyno sheet actually shows where you are making peak TQ and the car is a bit lazy on spool up

Warrtalon Apr 5, 2006 07:21 AM

CK, I don't think you hit full boost by 3100rpm in an VIII in 3rd gear. Don't refer to your spoolup in 5th gear, because that's not where we dyno. I have always hit full boost around 3600-3800rpm as proven on dynographs (can't rely on watching your tach).

Rcebowl's is just 100-200rpm slow on the spoolup, and that could be related to the things I mentioned earlier. He just needs to do a full pressure test to make sure his system is tight and sealed.

Rcebowl Apr 5, 2006 10:49 AM

word... ill do a full pressure test...

http://www.stealth316.com/2-pressuretester.htm

does this seem like a good pressuretester?

Thanks for all your help *both Al and warrtalon... and for the record i hope i never insalted Dynoflash's tune ....it is amazing! i knew something was up when i saw my numbers.. and who better then the crew at Dynoflash

Warrtalon Apr 5, 2006 11:17 AM

I use the one at http://vfaq.com/mods/ICtester.html

Rcebowl Apr 5, 2006 07:56 PM

soo after a pressure test... pretty damn sure it's the Throttle Body Gasket.... is that possible?? if soo where would be able to get one? besides at a mitshu

Rcebowl Apr 6, 2006 08:11 PM

bump...

does that seem right?? i hear nomrally it's the intake manifold gasket?
