E85 and fuel lines (evo 8/9)

My Evo 9 has been sitting close to 6 years with e85 in the fuel tank and fuel lines, and I’m currently getting things back together slowly. Head and block are at the machine shop, t-case is on its way to getting rebuilt, and multiple parts are on order to get this thing back together and on the road by the end of the year. I’m debating on changing the fuel lines, as I’d really hate to dump $30k+ getting this car rebuilt, and then have my fuel pump or injectors plug up and give me issues. Anyone have any experience with a car sitting this long with e85 in it and having no issues with the fuel lines degrading? If there’s a kit out there that upgrades all the fuel lines I’d be interested in purchasing something like that.

6 years with E85 is really bad if your fuel is exposed to atmosphere moisture. Check your fuel pump and all aluminum lines. My car sat 3 months without injectors so the fuel rail was open to atmosphere from end of February until last week. Here are a few pictures of my oem fpr

Hey Ben. (my oil pumping bud) Great to see the Red Beast being re-built

Definitely pull the pump & check the condition of the tank (post the pics). For sure a new FP is needed IMO

Might be best to get turned on 91 first so we can get those lines cleaned out. Maybe a 2nd brush up tune after 2-3 tanks of 91

I bet the lines are fine (especially after a 91 flush)
(my 9th year on E85)

Hello sir! We gotta catch up one of these days! I’ll try and pull the FP assembly and peep into the tank while I’m in town this week.

the fuel system wasn’t exposed to open air up until about 2 months ago when I had the motor pulled for some body work, so I’ll see how the fuel tank and FP looks like when I pull it apart sometime this week hopefully.

I'd check the condition of the fuel tank, I bet it's in a very bad shape. I let my car sit for 3 years with a tank full 93oct fuel & the fuel tank got totally ruined & I had to replace it.

Got some time to tear apart the fuel pump assembly yesterday and it looked surprisingly clean

I’ll be swapping out the fuel pump anyway, and possibly some of the lines going to the fuel rail with the STM kit once the car is closer to completion. Bank account is drained after buying JRZ’s, paying for my head work, ordering all new pulleys, belts, head and main studs, head gasket, water pump, oil pump, and conrods in a weeks time :crap:

The rubbers all look good & still very pliable

Great to have you back in the game again

Cant wait for the completion

That's nice to hear! I'll probably swap out my AEM 320 in about 3 months.
