You know it's warm out when...

You log 120F intake temps at 67mph on the highway:

http://www.norcalmotorsports.org/use...e_temps_02.gif

or 136F intake temps at WOT on city streets:

http://www.norcalmotorsports.org/use...e_temps_01.gif

or 94F before you even start the car in the morning: :crap:

http://www.norcalmotorsports.org/use...e_temps_03.gif

I saw 156F when idling at a light.

Time to build a real box. Seems like the hacked stock box isn't working as well as I thought in real warm weather. I am going to try and put the stock box back on when there is another hot day and see what kind of temps I log.

dsmdeliveryboy Jun 21, 2008 12:35 AM

Dude I live in Central Cali and it peaked at 112 here today, normal summer temps were usually like 85 degrees at the highest back in the day. damn global warming

scheides Jun 21, 2008 06:52 AM

Where is this temp being measured at? Intake? Intake Manifold? After the FMIC? :P I hear ya but ahh, I don't know how to comment w/o the above info! :P

Can you post an image of the box you're currently running? This is mine ... Morgan Performance Fabrication built it.

I honestly don't have any comparison logs, but it seems to help a little. It seals against the hood at top. I'm planning to make some sort of cold air feed for it when I get the time.

That looks pretty cool tb, which filter / maf adapter are you using?

Bryan, I PM'd you about a GST intake. Do you guys still carry the cone filter that doesnt upset the MAF?

dbsears Jun 21, 2008 01:19 PM

^^Interested in that also on the GST filter...I do see it on the site. What was the ambiet temp there?

Currently measuring at the MAF. I'll be installing a temp sensor on the intake manifold when I get around to swapping my ported intake manifold on the car.

That box you have looks pretty nice, I bet it's still getting some hot air since you don't have a clean air input.

The box I am running is a hacked stock box. I'm all about super stealth here in Kalifornia. I think I am going to try and fabricate a box underneath to seal it completely off from the engine bay and feed it with cold air somehow, and somehow keep the top to keep it stealth looking.

Currently looks like this:

We've had a ton of the GST intakes on back-order for freaking ever. We get calls about it all the time. They said 2 months 6 months ago. :crap:

btw, the logs above where done with my new ASUS eeePC mini laptop.

This thing absolutely ROCKS for data logging. It fits in the Evo glove box with room to spare, uses flash mem for a hard-drive so knocks and vibrations won't crash it.

I'll be using it to data-log our Street Class Evo at Redline in Utah next week.

So far I love this thing.

What where the ambient air temperatures when you recorded those logs?

Approx 95F with 18% humidity.

I'd also be interested in the GST intake....Bryan, I've pm'd you a few times to no avail. I'd like to talk with you about the GST stock BCS line w/ pill.

So you really recommend this laptop? I have been thinking about getting it, but its so cheap to buy that I got scared away from it. Any dowsides to buying it?

I would recommend it for logging and some light tuning duty.

For logging it seriously rocks as it's ultra ultra portable and fits in the glove box even with two USB cables plugged into the side.

The downsides are that the screen is small as hell (800x600). Tuning with it full-time might suck. Keyboard is super small as well.

I still use my normal acer laptop for dyno tuning.

The Asus is perfect for what I planned on using it for, logging the track cars and some street logging. The true test will be this coming weekend at Redline @ Miller.

Yeah, you're tight I'm sure. I'm planning to make a cold air feed from the bumper opening soon, but there isn't a plan to completely close off the box.

I'm using the K&N filter and adapter .. no, not the Typhoon.
