sorry I havn't been online recently...
Hi Guys,
*** sorry mods, I know it's the wrong forum, but hey most of my posts are here neways :P *** So Last Sunday @ Phillip Island wasn't such a good day for me: https://img160.imageshack.us/img160/...wcrash1ge6.jpg https://img19.imageshack.us/img19/62...wcrash2di9.jpg https://img240.imageshack.us/img240/...llowcrash3.jpg Now firstly I am fine, I was taken to hospital for tests etc... I am still a bit stiff in the neck area - I guess undestandably so... I basically don't remember much but the story goes as follows: Exiting turn 2, put my foot down to power out, car ran wide, back right wheel went into gravel, backend stepped out... I stamped on the brakes, span 360 across the track to the infield and hit an embankment, which flipped the car a couple of times. My PBox says I was doing about 100km/h before the spin... No data after that as the SD card popped out :( The main thing is I am ok, just minor bruising and some majorly dented ego :(:(:(:( I think I know what went wrong: 1) car not setup yet (first session, I should have taken it easy) 2) toe-in issue on front left, ran the strings up before the session and front left looked like 3mm toe-in, I thought I did it wrong so I left it... 3) too many ppl on the track and my impatience 4) **** lack of respect for the Phillip Island gods :( ***** #4 was by far the biggest contributor to my crash! Let this be a lesson to you, NEVER NEVER underestimate how easy it is to loose control... Now obviously there is NO insurance, I am NOT going to pull a dodgey and commit fraud, I knew the risks and unfortunately I got unlucky (with the car anyways) - so yeah it's going to be a heartbrakingly expensive experience for me (given the car is under a lease, so I need to pay it out basically) Normally people are pretty quiet about this sort of thing, but I think it's good too remind everyone that trackdays are dangerous. That doesn't mean don't do trackdays, it just means: DON'T DRIVE BEYOND YOUR ABILITIES DON'T GET COCKY *** DON'T DRIVE A CAR THAT CAN'T AFFORD TO LOOSE :( *** I would like to give thanks to all the guys that helped on the day - especially James (JPC) for buggerising about for me... I am not sure what I will be doing with the car, I have a few options at the moment... However I have already promised my girl I won't be tracking again... Maybe the odd skidpan day.. But we will see... Not even sure if I will able to stay in the evo-fraternity :( I will still endevour to get V6 out as promised (infact I will have more time to work on it given I have no car to tune ;)) Thanks in advance for your kind words :) Cheers D. |
Glad your ok physically, cars are replaceable. Good tips to keep in mind for future ref. Thanks for your continued support on the mods and good luck with the financial side of it all. Hope you can get back in an Evo soon.

Hello Tephra
looks like an horror crash! Glad you'd got nothing serious. Wish all the best for a new Evo mlocatel |
Man, that really really sucks.
For you, because you lost your car, a lot of money, and you´re not going back to the track again (I seriously hope you do, but it will take time). For the Evo community, because you were one of the biggest contributors to the massive improvements in stock ECU tuning we can all take advantage of nowdays. On the upside, you´re fine, and seriously that´s all that matters. Good luck tephra, and thanks. |
OMG!
Glad your alright. It's only a car, they can be replaced people cannot. Best Wishes going forward. |
Damn man,glad your ok .
|
I'm glad you're ok! Did you have a roll bar and harness?

Glad you're fine sir!
Time to start a fundraiser and get him a new evo!!! We need him in the ecuflash forum! :D |
Glad to hear you are not badly hurt. Track=roll cage!!!
|
Glad your ok man

That is one horrific crash! Just be glad you came out alive. the financial aspect of it is immaterial as life is not replaceable. it just a car, get another one.

tephra, glad to see you are OK. That's the most important thing.
Financially, hopefully more and more people will begin donating to you for your efforts with the tephramods. Your contribution to the community has been priceless and we all appreciate your efforts. Hope everything works out for you. Eric |

Glad to see you made it out of the crash with only a few minor injuries. You're a great resource to this community and hopefully after reading your story/looking at your pics some track newcomers will take it easy their first few times out.

I'm sorry for what happened Dave, I'm glad you are fine... I did a street crash last week, a minor issue if compared to this, but my throttle hanged at 100%. So I agreed, drive always carefully!
