Connection Error
I keep getting an initialization error and the cable won't connect to read or write to the ECU. It tries to connect 3 times and then errors out. It used to work, but I haven't used the car in 9 months since I was putting it back to stock. Some of the ECU wires had to be taped off since I tapped into them, but I don't see this being related.
I did a search and found out it could a plethora of things: bad cable (tried friends newer v1.3u cable on v1.42 with same issue), low voltage battery (started the car and tried connecting), wrong software version (v1.3m cable so I'm using v1.29a), ecu unlocker software (mine isn't but tried it anyways), etc. I tried it all and nothing works. I know the cable works since I can run the OBD2 software, connect, and reset CEL's. I tried the rest to no avail. Any other suggestions? I need to get into the ECU since the car is back to stock, but the flash is not. |
Put a charger on it, the starting the car thing doesn't work for me after some jerk at the tire shop left my car in the on position for 4 hours with a mini battery

try getting a new cable(1.3)... May upgrade to Ecuflash 1.42 as well.

Try flashing with the motor idling. Only thing it does is shuts the motor off.

Ummm, idk about this. Can you say "brick"?
As part of the flash code the motor is stopped, ECU goes into flash mode, and the flash begins. Many times for people with weak batteries or ornery ECUs this is the only way to get a flash going without hooking up to a charger. |

That you did.
Yes, I can say brick. Some people say I have a mid-western accent though and it sounds funny. |

I appreciate the help guys. This is why I decided to keep the car and stay in the Evo family :)

since i haven't been back in the states for a while, i haven't dove into this issue (or anything evo related lol) at all--but--flashing in EVOSCAN always works when i have your issue. seems like ECUFLASH times out/doesn't init for one reason or another.
actually, EVOSCAN has never failed on a flash attempt for me. just some food for thought...i know you may not have that option as EVOSCAN is not free. the fix may already have been covered here. if you have or have a friend with EVOSCAN, try it out. you guys will probably figure it out before i get back. :) |
