On the right path??....AFR's(specifically)
3 Attachment(s)
Hi all,
I have been lurking around EvoM for quite some time now, and thought now that I am getting a little deeper into my tuning, I might actually jump on here and get some personal help out of it. {thumbup} So, let me give you a bit of info on my setup so that you can help me with that much more accuracy. '05 Evo VIII MR - 70,000mi, stock drivetrain, stock block, tbe w/ test pipe (ebay brand), Injen intake and intercooler piping (uicp, licp, intake pipe, open air filter), Invidia o2 housing, iridium plugs gapped to .032(ish haha), AEM UEGO w/ gauge, stock MR boost gauge, walbro 255, Hotchkis 25mm rear swaybar, underhood and shifter base bushings, royal purple 10w30 synth, stock boost & D.V. ({thumbdwn})...ya. Anyways, I have been logging and tuning little by little over the past few months just trying to eliminate knock, and succeeded. Now i come to you, the EvoM Guru's for tech support. ha  :mitsu: I ended up making some small changes here and there on the ignition map, but put most of my focus on the fuel map to make my car run as efficiently as i could. So, below I have posted my fuel and ignition maps and a 4th gear WOT log; and below that, I have put up the fuel/ign map that I have adjusted. Also, I have not flashed the second maps to my evo yet; I came to you all first to look over it and make sure it is at least safe to run. Thank you all in advance for the help and input. It is definitely appreciated. :D And mod's...if i posted this in the wrong spot or incorrectly, etc., I am sorry. Like I said before...im kinda new to this...and maybe a lil retarded :crap:  |
Can't see much in the screenshot, too small to read properly.
If you're really running AFR's in the 10's you need to lean that out. No reason to be in the 10's. Shoot for 11.5 at peak torque and tapper it down to 11.1 by redline. Can you log boost? |
Those maps look very rich. Also the timing is off at least from what I ve seen on many VIII MR's
Your log shows 10 flat AFR at high rpm and starts at 2000 rpm at 11.9. Are these values from a wideband? What boost are you running? Have you checked for boost leaks? From your alt load you peak around 235 load which is about 22 psi then taper off to 170 load up top which is about 16 psi. You should be able to get 22 tapering to 21 up top. AFR off a wideband on pull from 3000 should be like 11.9 tapering to low 11's at redline Plug gap for 25 -22 psi should be ~025-028" to avoid blowing out spark. Go with the BPR8EIX Iridiums as they will last prolly a year Typical timing should be 3 degrees at peak torque 4500 and 11-13 degrees max at high rpm. Looking at your timing log, you are 0 degrees at peak torque, then 20 degrees at redline too low in middle then too high at redline The AFR maps look to be even richer than the stock pig rich maps.I saw low 7's IIRC in your map. Too rich can cause knock just as too lean can. Going just by the AFR map on my 05 MR, I have about 10.5 at high rpm and 14.7- 13.5 below 100 load. You can use the smoothing tool in EcuFlash to help smooth your map transitions, rapid change can induce knock. Hope this helps |

I always kept peak timing on stock block and pump to 0-1 so I wasn't overworking the rods...
AFRs are really rich as well... how much boost are you running? I am guessing 19 or 20 psi looking at the timing at redline... |
