What technically stops the ECUFlash from reading the EcuTek flash? Does the EcuTek flash change the init string? The kernel doesn't have to be loaded to do a read does it?

I do think it somehow alters the init sequence.. But we'll wait for someone who knows to answer this one.. and no, after the ECU is put into bootstrap mode, it uses its own bootstrap code to extract the Rom.. Therefore any ECU could be recovered from a bad flash.. which is why I find the ECUTek thing odd.. I dont have an issue with it not being editable, but at the least the owner should be able to back it up..

My thoughts exactly.

I just tried to read the EcuTek flash again, just to make sure I didn't do something wrong. Same thing as before.

Portion of the log:
Sending init sequence 1 (0001)
Sending init sequence 2 (FFFF)
No responce from any know code

why not try to get the dealer to reflash the ECU? Even the tuner who installed the ECUTek flash should be able to restore the factory ROM image.

Well there is only about 4294836225 different combinations of init sequences...
