No,the rear O2 sensor is only an emissions related function and does not in any way affect performance.

There are also several free tricks out there that you can use to, in effect, disable that O2 sensor so it doesnt trigger the SES light.

You have the "Anti-Fouler" trick, you can use an electronic O2 simulator, You can use the ECU+ which has the simulator built in, or you can run a Cat (though my cat does occasionally throw the CEL light)

I'm sure at some point in the future you will be able to do this with a reflash, but the coding is more complex than just changing a map or table.. Also, every (year) ECU Rom image seems to have slight variations, and the code is definitely in different places on some of the roms.

Dont let the liberals or environuts find out about this, if they do once another Dem is in office this will be illeagal. Think about it, any average joe (like myself) can install the cat and unflash the ecu before emissions once a year

With the current solutions out there and emissions testing only requiring an OBDII scan I doubt anyone's being fooled on this. I'd be far more concerned with ever increasing oil costs occuring on the watch of the "Laissez-faire" economists in Washington today than with fooling a sensor with a simple fix.
