differences in 03 vs 05 timing maps
I have an 03 and have been working with the my 03 tables. I just recently downloaded an 05 rom and compared the two and notices a huge difference in plotting and mapping style of the two roms.
For instance in the most extreme upper right of the table where the "impossible" conditions such as 240% at 1750 rpm and such are all positive 6-8 on 03 while in the 05's they are all -10. But what's more striking is near the upper half of the rpm range around the 80-120 load marks the 03 maps are lagging by at least few degrees.
Would it then be prudent to work off 05 maps as a base instead of 03 maps, because it seems the 05's are a revision of the previous year's. The only engine difference was the 10.5 hotside, if im correct. What do you guys think?

hmmm....if the only difference was infact that 10.5 hotside than that could be a good point. I'm eagerly awaiting my 03 map from dyno flash but I have an 05 map that i also purchased and wonder how the 05 map can be that different (assuming identical mods ect.)

I'm no expert by any means but all the 03-05 stock ROM's I've seen (about 12) have the same exact timing map for high & low octain. Even the p0300 files have the same timing. You sure it was a 'stock' map? There are a couple over on OpenECU.com that say stock but are not.

oh yeah it was a stock map because we pulled the map from an 05 evo that my friend owns. He bought it brand new and never had a flash done. The values are not THAT different. Like the stock values are a small amount larger most likely due to the 10.5. However alot of other values may just be changed through the learning process. We purchased a flash from AL and looked at it for his stock 05. I'm trying to figure out what the differences are between the 05 dyno flash and the 03. However im still waiting on my 03 flash. I have already considered taking the tables from the 05 and copying to my 03 and trying that. I have to hopefully get it ready to go by the weekend thats why im curious about all the other values.

wow......yes you are 100% right. I apologize for that. I was comparing the wrong files.....So then in theory, if both of the stock fuel maps are identical then I should again in theory, be able to take a flash for that car....copy the fuel settings and boost (possibly taking some away due to the lack of a hotside) and use that as a starting point for an 03. There are a few differences in the maps of a stock 03 vs the stock 05 MR.
open loop high throttle
knock sensor filter map 1
idle stepper look up table
desired RPM neutral
all iscv settings
Those are the differences that I am seeing now that I am using the correct files. Since the cars are virtually the same would it be safe to say that possibly the 05 settings would work well in the 03. I'm just trying to figure out why the subtle differences unless they were an improvement.
Thanks for your reply, I'm glad you wrote back or my dumb A-- would have been lookin at the wrong thing this entire time.

hmm maybe I screwed up the maps then, cause I downloaded a "stock" 03 rom from openecu forums to compare to my flashed map. I haven't had access to a verifiably stock 03 but I did get a verifiably stock 05. my bad
