Ignition timing on my JDM Evo IX
I have a UK FQ340 Evo IX, but am presently running the JDM Evo IX GSR ECU.
I have 3" catless exhaust from the turbo elbow back, Walbro pump, AVC-R, and run Shell Optimax which is 98 RON, I gather like US 93 PON.
Using Proscan OBD-II logger I seem to have 7-8 degrees at about 4000 RPM at about 20 PSI, and about 14-15 degrees at 6000 RPM also at 20 PSI, rising to about 17 or so at 7000 RPM. I have run higher but in warmer weather I get lift off det due I think to lean spool issues if I drove the above setup hard, and also I sometimes get a little bit of det at 6000-7000 RPM in 5th gear, so I am not running this setting until I get the ability to write the flash back to my ROM.
This appears to be about load 160-180% on my high octane ignition maps which I've previously posted here. I was expecting about 240% for 20 PSI or therabouts.
Ideas?

Hi John
I have a similar issue with my JDM Evo VII. From my ECU+ logs I am seeing 10 deg advance at 4000, this equates to 160 on the load scale, I belive the Evo 7 sould be giving about 1.2 bar at this point. I to am unclear about how the load maps & boost coralate.

Thanks, glad to see I'm not the only one who has noticed this. Bring on the explanations guys....
You may wonder why us UK guys post here. Well, the level of debate on end user tuning is far better than on our boards. Here you have a forum for ECUflash, over there the post I started where I posted the maps for the first time on the ROMs a lot of us are running just died out due to lack of interest except from one or two people.

Hi
Reading some of the other threads about load calculation, it has been sugested that road speed may be a consideration. If like me your running with a speed converter at the gearbox the road speed seen by the ECU will be converted from mph to kph. On my car I can see this as I have an ECU+ piggy back that loggs the ECU.
If i get time this weekend I'll reflash my ECU to remove the speed ristriction & move the speed converter to the speedo. Let me know if you're not runing the speed coverter though as it will save me a lot of messing about!

I am running the speed converter as the car was delivered.
I would think that the fuelling would be well off the mark if it was so many load zones out though? My timing didn't seem wildly different between gears, the reason I logged it in some higher gears as well as lower was that the OBD sample rate is so slow!

Hi
Yes I haden't thought of the fueling, still you are running a bit weak during spool up are you not? If it's not to much of a pain, I'll do the swap. It would be one thing to take out of the equation.

Yes it is a bit lean, but I really notice it in the high gears because it is leaner for longer and earlier spool up.
I gathered that I would be able to advance my ignition map a bit, but I think that is unlikely, and sorting out the lean spool should stop my det I hope. But since I'll be leaning it at the top a bit I might have to retard if it is sparkly at 6000-7000 RPM.

Mine is here (and Dark Evo posted a nice xml definition file that just needs a few of the scalings altered):

Hi
here's my hex file and also the xml which I have configured for this rom. It's the second last post page 1.

I've added an ECU+ log as well. there is only one 3dr gear pull. I'm on 235/45R17
tyres.
