Vehicle speed at &H2F confirmed

Evoscan request ID &H2F gives vehicle speed, scaling 2x. On my UK car (which is a JDM car which would read in km/h which has been converted to read mph) the units are then mph. It isn't a particularly fine log, think it jumps 4 at a time, but you can tell what gear you were in in your logs.

I've done some logging with &H2F enabled and it seems to be accurate only up to third gear. In 4th or 5th gear the logged value far exceeds the actual speed of the vehicle.

What does the VSS look like? Can anybody explain it to me?

For instance is it a 255d number that decays to 0 with a x^2 or x^3 style looking decay?
