I have logged anywhere between 8 and 13 counts. There was a thread on this awhile back.

Anything that creates a misfire will generate noise that can be interpretted by the ECU as knock..

when I use the stationary rev limiter (2step) at the track the ECU will pickup knock for about 1-2 seconds then the count will decay. The longer I hold it, the more boost builds and the less knock is present. I never go for more the 3-4 seconds though.

Back in my DSM days I found that if I "eased" into the 2-step and didn't just floor it immediately I would not register any knock and the car would leave with full timing. Flooring it resulted in retarded timing and weak launches. Maybe this would work for the Evo

At the risk of sounding rude, if it wasnt good it wouldnt have been programmed by the factory.

This is very interesting. I have my two step set at 5725 and have never logged while using it. I wonder if it caused a pull in timing and a corresponding pull in octane value?? If yes, that could explain my lower than expect trap speeds....

I logged the timing using the Stationary Rev Limiter set at 5750rpm. The timing stayed between 17-20degrees. The AFR was pegged at 19.9. EGT's dropped below 400c. I did not log knock count.
