Standard Rom Versions

With all of the patching that has been going on with ECU Roms I think it might be a good idea to establish a standard ROM for each car year.

For example the Evo IX uses 88590013, 14, and 15
And as a result you have patches that work on one but not the other, or you have developers who are spending time make sure they port their work to every ROM. It seems to me like this is a big waste of time.

the 88590015 seems to be the most popular for the Evo IX, so why don't we just say from now on that this is going to be the only rom worked on for the Evo IX. This will allow coders to disassemble only one rom, saving time and making dissembly work progress faster. And anyone who wants to use these patches will just have to use a version 15 rom. The same would be true for a rom version for 03, 04 and 05 Evo 8's

Anyone see a downside to this?

How about this list as the standard roms
Code:
   06 Evo 9 - 88590015
   05 Evo 8 - 96940011
03-04 Evo 8 - 94170008

Not a problem with 05's as all of them use 96940011.

I think Tephra can patch anyone's ROM if they want to use their original ROM. Maybe add on $10 or so to the donation and it will keep Tephra busy for a while. I guess it's all up to the person doing the patches and how they want to handle it.

I like the idea of keeping a 'standard' for each year ('03-04-05-06), will save tons of time.

The only one you would need to add for the USDM market then other than the 15 for IX's and the 05 would be 94170008 for the 03-04 "standard" between all of them. I have seen some that use a 969 in the 04's but only once and I am not sure but I think I flashed it with the 941 and it was okay.

So how do you switch to the new rom? I.e, I downloaded the NLTS patch, applied to my evo ix-15 series rom in my ecuflash rom, but i currently run ix-13, so how do i use the 15 series rom on my ecu, where to you apply it, i know I have to change init code, etc for my particular car and copy my maps and things over.

Why wouldn't we want 94170015 to be standard for the early models? It includes the P0300 fix that does actually help some people and is the latest version provided by the dealer.

Could this rom be used instead of the 94170008 rom?

I'm just trying to have as few roms as possible work for as many cars as possible.

This is a great idea and frankly...I'm surprised this hasn't already been implimented in the recent past.

I believe so unless someone can provide a definitive reason against it. The 94170015 is 94170008 + P0300 fix = latest ROM as I understand things.

If a 94170008 goes in to the dealer complaining about P0300s, the dealer just flashes them with 94170015.

I'm running a 94170014 rom on my '03 which the dealership reflashed for the P0300 fix. My ROM now reads that its for a 2004. Not sure if this means all 94170014's are P0300 fixed as well.

Not to go terribly OT but have any of the fixes actually fixed the P0300? If they havent then the 008 stands as the most disassembled rom for those years as I understand it.

It would be nice to have a list of which roms are 100% interchangeable, at least for a certain year....and then STICKIED!!
