I have a enhanced chip in my ECU that I got through MEEK Automotive. To do this your ECU will need to be socketed for the eprom chip, this means that the eprom can be unplugged from the PCB without the need for soldering. Fortunately for me as an Electronics Tech I could do this work myself.

Another option is the flashable chip setup you can get through ECM Tuning which is a better option as it gives you heaps of tuning options. This will also require the socket for the replacement chip set. http://www.ecmtuning.com/index.php?o...7ucs38o9sk0620

Or as said fit an later Evo ECU and use EvoScan and ECUflash to do your tuning.

I am a novice but these are the options I am aware of.

Cheers

Wow never thought I would actually read the whole thing but I did. I have a tatrix cable and evo scan on the way. I just want to learn how to download the files and log. And no doubt I'll probably be hooked. Very informative write up btw.

an Evo5-6 ecu running a CeddyMods rom is your best solution for an Evo3 - Geekmapped has all the details.

I'm tired of paying $3-500 every time I want to update my tune because I've installed new parts. This is an amazing How-To for starting to tune/ecuflash and has inspired me to start tuning my own IX. Props to the OP.

Thats the initial charge.
Each time you upgrade parts your tuner should only charge $100-$150 if your his customer from a previous tune.
If your paying $300-$500 to get tuned for each part you upgrade your getting ripped off!!

I would suggest to read as much as possible and ask questions when in doubt, you can also post your ROM, XML and logs to have some of the more experienced guys take a look and give suggestions.

Reviving an old thread but, fantastic amount of information here. I bought ecuflash earlier this year to delete my rear o2 and get into tuning. Defiantly going to start "studying" my car with confidence now! 👍👍👍

Still a good reliable tutorial?

I just wanted to ask and make sure is this still a good reliable source to still go by or has anything changed in the years with tuning for the EVO. I am very interested in learning and tuning my own car but I am just getting started and am wanting to learn I just don't want to learn and go off information that isnt up to date or there is more update information I should go by.

Thanks.
