I cannot run more than 3* @240 and 260 to 2*@280 load in the 3k - 3.5k rpm area, if I run more timing I'll get a tall Mayan piramid

Are you pulling a lot of power then?

Bringing this back. I'm so frustrated with knock at part throttle, especially around 3,000-3,500 rpm. I've gotten it down for the most part to 2 counts, down from 4, but I feel like I'm taking out too much timing.
Has this been confirmed that this is false knock?

I concluded mine was false, modified the knock sensitivity in that range barely and never had the issue come back again,

i found out that an agressive ramp down in timing (e.g., when going from 40 deg adv at criuse) can cause knock (thanks R/TErnie for suggesting it to me). decreasing my low load timing to make a more gentle slope from cruise to full boost timing got rid of it for me.
