Water/meth for dummies

Is there a guide on how to tune water/meth injected car?
What is a typical methanol to water mixture ratio?
I assume that timing could scientifically more advanced than normal, but what about AFR, is it similar to a normal fuel tuning aiming for typical figures like 11-11.5? I basically would like to have idea on how meth/water tuning is different than normal tuning (timing, fuel, boost...etc)

Any suggestions would be appreciated

I was running methanol on 2 cars. Evo 10 (fp red, je pistons, manley rods, kellford s2, exaust and etc) and evo 8 (evo 9 turbo, kellford 272` and etc).

On evo 10 afr was 12.5 during spool up and 12.2 by the redline. Ignition + 6 (or 8, cant remember) degrees in the middle and 4 (or 6) by the redline. It was possible to add even more degrees but I didnt see any power growth. Here is the link to the power graphs http://www.drive2.ru/cars/mitsubishi...51749587/#post. Boost was 1.6 bar and 2.0 bar (dropped to 1.8 or something like that by the redline). On 2 bar of boost max power without meth was 448 hp, with meth 519.

With evo 8 i added 6 degrees in the middle, 4 by the redline, afr during spool up 12.5 and 11.9 or so by the redline.

So, it's just like normal tuning but a bit more aggressive! What water to methanol mixture ratio did you use?
Also what kind of fuel (octane rating) did use getting those figures?

11.7-12afr at redline is about right. Some people go leaner though

Thanks for the input, but what would be a good water to fuel ratio mixture to start with?

Honestly, the power gain from dipping into the 12's isn't worth the risk of added heat.

Even with meth I now tune for mid to low 11's. When I first got the kit, I was trying to squeeze every bit of power I could out of my FP Green, so I was running ~12.5 AFRs with 0-3 counts of knock, and I ended up cracking piston #3 (cylinder 3 runs a bit leaner than the rest due to stock intake manifold design)

Lesson learned: It's not worth the 5-10hp to make the jump from 11.5 to 12.5 AFR, even on meth.

Start with a 50/50 mix. And like recompile and I said keep afrs below 12.

11.5 - 12.1 is good, leaner with higher amounts

That is absolutely true with gas, even e85 to lesser degree, but with methanol spraying it is much less. With enough methanol (like 2L per min at 24psi boost) you can safely go WOT in closed loop with catalyzed CO at stoich, wont be powerful at all but that's an example of how cool methanol burns.

Honestly running meth injection is a fine line patch in the sense that so many kits are unreliable, so keeping ur Afrs on the safe side might be the only thing keeping u from destroying a motor. Have u thought of other avenues for fuel such as e85 or even a homemade cocktail of gas+ a octane boosting chemical?

yeh do your research.

Some kits are a lot better than others (ie Aquamist pretty much rules this arena)

11.8AFR is about what my X likes - no point in any leaner if it only makes a tiny bit more power

There are so many things to consider and to watch out for.

For instance, consider the question when tuning W/M on the rich side for a margin of safety: What AFR will it be at if the system failed to spray?

Imagine the system fails and your failsafe kicks in dropping boost 18 psi and ignition late. At 14.3:1 AF the engine can still blow up, at 15.3:1 it likely wont.

I'm using an AEM kit.
W/M spray failure would be catastrophic, especially that my base fuel is only 91 octane! I'm going to play it safe & start with something like 11.3 AFR, 21psi boost

I have a 625ml nozzle. It should be mounted at least 1ft away from the throttle to atomize properly
