Setting base timing with ECU flash *IN A DSM*

Quick question all.

I have a DSM that I swapped a 6 bolt into and a Evo 8 ecu. As most of you know the CAS sensor is moveable so that you can set base timing.

Would it be safe to assume that the closer my readings in EvoScan are to what the table's are in my tune (Say load 0%ish 1000RPM) means I am more close to what the base timing should be set at?

IE: Load 0, rpm 1000 in my table reads either 6 or 8 for timing advance. At idle my car is at 10-12. Should I rotate the CAS to get that closer to the 6-8 range?

I know I should pick up a timing light and do this the old fashioned way but just for now I'd like it roughly there while I get various other things sorted out on the car.

You need to use a timing light.

The ecu gets the timing information from the CAS.
So you could be off 20* and the ecu will still log 5* or whatever.

Also the ecu uses timing advance to control idle speed, so you can't go by what the ignition table says at idle.
